This career major includes both EMT Basic and Fire Portion coursework. In EMT Basic, students will earn Core First Aid, Healthcare Provider CPR, airway management, how to perform patient assessment, response and treatment of patients in common medical emergencies as well as management of trauma patients. They gain fundamental knowledge of EMT operational roles and responsibilities, including ethics, to ensure sage and effective response, scene management, and transport of patients. Students must obtain EMT Basic certification by passing the National Registry of EMT Basic exam (NREMTB) to work in the EMT field. In the Fire Portion, coursework focuses on fire prevention, safety, investigation, terminology, detection, supression, building construction, fire and emergency services and fire department organization and management. This career major includes both Advanced EMT and Fire Portion coursework. Students must already have passed the NREMTB licensure exam to enroll. Advanced EMT is a step betweem EMT Basic and Paramedic. Students will learn to use specialized equipment and invasive life-saving procedures. Upon completion, students will be eligble to take the National Registry of EMT Advanced exam and may continue to work on the Paramedic level.
