What will taking part involve?

The programme will run for 8 weeks with 1 session per week, each session lasting 1½ -2 hours.

You and your child will need to commit to attending all 8 sessions and will participate in group activities, games and discussions.

Your child will participate in an activity and game based exercise class for a part of each session. During this time, you will be encouraged to explore how you could make little changes to your current lifestyle that could result in major benefits to your and your child’s health and well being.

Eat, Play and Grow Well - programme

Childhood is the best time to get on the right track with eating well and physical activity. Ensuring your child is of a healthy weight for their height and age can help them grow well and lead a happy and healthy life.

Children of a healthy weight are more likely to feel good about themselves and join in and enjoy physical activity. They are also less likely to develop diabetes or other chronic diseases later in life.

By encouraging the whole family to eat well and be physically active, children will learn by example and be given the necessary support to lead a healthy lifestyle.

NHS Grampian trained staff will deliver the programme. The course will be run in a relaxed manner and will comprise a mix of activities and talks that take you through dealing with many issues around eating well and healthy lifestyle, including:

• Understanding different food groups.

• Monitoring eating and physical activity habits.

• Coping methods.

• Food selection and menu planning.

• Eating out.

• Dealing with fussy eaters.
