Hello Endeavour Schools community, Student Behaviour Policy In this fortnight’s newsletter I have outlined some of the whole-school positive behaviour strategies that are used here at the Schools. At Endeavour Schools we believe that positive behaviour needs to be acknowledged and rewarded. The whole-school approaches we use to support the reinforcement of positive behaviour include: - Individual class systems – Each class is required to have some form of whole-class behaviour system that supports our positive behaviour expectations (e.g. Dojo points, marbles in the jar, weekly reward time etc). - School token system – The school is currently working through a process to implement a new whole-school token system for students which is aligned to our positive behaviour expectations. Students are invited to submit a design for these new tokens (see information in the office for more details). - Merit certificates – Certificates are awarded to students at school assemblies as a way to acknowledge positive work and behaviour. - Principals Afternoon Tea – Once a term a student from each class is invited to attend an afternoon tea with the Principals and their parents as means of acknowledging positive work that occurs in our classrooms. - Buddies – Each fortnight (even weeks) buddies sessions are held. This sees senior classes partnered up with junior classes. Each fortnight the buddy classes come together to participate in activities that support the school’s positive behaviour expectations and social and emotional focus. 0 - 4 Playtime This week we held our first 0 - 4 Playtime session in the library. We had many children and parents attend. It was great to see everyone joining in the activities. I would like to thank Mrs Danica Becic for organising this session. We hope through these sessions we can build stronger links with our parents and wider community. Our next session is scheduled for Tuesday, 27th August 2019 (Week 6). Please phone the office on 9524 5000 if you would like to attend. Storydogs Fundraiser Endeavour Schools currently has two volunteers who support our students with their reading through the Storydogs program. Currently we have a small group of Year 2 and 3 students involved in the program. Each week these students undertake reading sessions with a trained volunteer and their dog. This Friday we are holding a fundraiser to support the Storydogs program. Students are welcome to come to school dressed as either a dog or in orange (the colour worn by Storydogs volunteers) for a gold coin donation. Chris Burgess - Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers, Endeavour Schools’ families and our local community are the BEST! Last Saturday ESC staff manned the Bunning Sausage Sizzle to raise funds for the ESC Camp in order to enable ALL our students to attend, providing the full camp experience at reasonable costs to families. We made over $1000 profit from the sausage sizzle and another $340 from our raffle which is an amazing amount of support from our community. I can’t thank our sponsors for the raffle prizes enough for their contributions to our fundraising. If you can, please support them as they have supported us. We had a Beauty Pack and Beauty Voucher valued at $120 donated by Jessica Wyndow, a beautiful locket from Lockets of Love donated by Melissa Langshaw and a Meat Voucher donated by Raymond at Warnbro Quality Meats – no wonder we did so well with our raffle! It takes a whole lot of preparation beforehand and a whole lot of work on the day but the Endeavour ESC team pulled through admirably and they all deserve a medal for their efforts (maybe chocolate would be better?). Our utmost gratitude however goes to everyone who came along to support us on the day. It was a great social event with our current cohort of students and families and it was also wonderful to see past students (all grown up now) and their families as well. We were well advertised on social media throughout the day for which I thank you all. A BIG and heartfelt ♥ thank you to everyone involved. I’m sure you will have noticed the progress with our new buildings over the past few weeks – groundworks are complete, slabs are down and the fence is going up. I am reliably informed that we are about 1-2 weeks ahead of schedule and the rooms will soon start to take shape. We’ve still got a way to go to completion but it’s great to see the progress. Watch this space for further updates. Our School Board meeting for this term is to be held on Tuesday, 13th August, commencing at 9am in the staffroom. This meeting will be the annual Open Meeting where we invite all interested parents and community members to come along and participate, ask questions and meet the current School Board members. We value the on-going commitment from our School Board members as they provide an essential element in developing and designing the future directions for our Schools for the benefit of all Endeavour students, so please consider joining us for this Open Meeting to see how it all works. That’s all for now folks, Jayne Gorbould - ESC Principal

Endeavour Schools Positive Behaviour Expectations

Swimming lessons for Pre Primary to Year 6 students will commence in Week 5, Term 3 - Monday, 19th August to Friday, 30th August. Lessons will cost $45 and notes and yellow envelopes have been sent home. Payments are now being accepted.

As the flu season is now upon us, we wish to remind you of a few things to help get over it

and get on with it. Usually someone with influenza will recover naturally within 2 to 7 days. If you have mild symptoms and are not at increased risk of developing severe illness from the flu, you should stay at home and rest until you are well. The recommended treatment for mild to moderate flu is to:

Take paracetamol to help reduce fever and head and muscle aches.

Get plenty of rest.

Drink plenty of fluids.

Eat healthy food. Decongestants and other cold remedies will not help and antibiotics do not treat influenza unless you have secondary bacterial infection (which must be diagnosed by a doctor). Antiviral medication can help to manage your illness but only if you are treated early, within 12 to 48 hours of showing flu symptoms. Flu is not usually diagnosed within this period, so it is not commonly used (except in special circumstances). While you have the flu

Stay home from school or work and avoid contact with other people.

Wash your hands often, especially after coughing, sneezing or blowing your nose and before you prepare any food.

Use disposable tissues and immediately throw used tissues in the bin.

Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze.
