The objectives of the DEU are to: utilize staff nurses to assist undergraduate nursing students in attaining clinical competence; provide clinical education for an increased number of students (a strategy to contend with the looming nursing shortage); assist and support the professional development of staff nurses; and provide a prepared pool of potential resources for workforce recruitment.

•!• Provided stewardship for ECMC to become the region's fifth Designated Stroke Center in April2009 and maintain compliance with annual recertification requirements through 2012.

It is my honor to serve as the director of the flagship program of the institution with primary responsibility for providing visionary transformational academic leadership to our program participants. Included in my day-to-day purview is the development, implementation, evaluation, and enhancement of the program's academic mission to ensure continuous quality improvement and operational efficiency. I fulfill my duties and responsibilities in accordance with the following over-arching goals:

• To strategically advance the institutional vision and mission through the Honors Program

• To develop and manage continuous quality improvement initiatives through Honors Seminars Program Review and Restructuring Plan

• To collaborate with the Office of Financial Aid and Institutional Advancement in the implementation of the Fiscal And Operational Performance Improvement and Enhancement Program Plan

• To work collegially with honors faculty to advance the program, and individual research/teaching/service agenda

• To create an organizational efficiency infrastructure supported by all academic units

• To formulate, articulate, and implement a compelling vision for the program and to effectively disseminate that distinct brand identity to local, regional, national, and international constituents/stakeholders

• To maintain compliance with policies mandated by the Buffalo State Administration, Cabinet, and Board of Trustees

• To foster a climate of highest intellectual integrity by promoting and demonstrating effective program-wide communication, collaboration, and collegiality.

Responsibilities. • Responding to the Dean of University College & Associate V.P. of Undergraduate and

International Education • Administer a program budget of $600,000 plus a year • Schedule honors classes • Recruit faculty to teach honors classes • Work collaboratively with Admissions to recruit students from high schools/community

colleges • Organize lectures/cultural events/trips/social gatherings • Advise all program participants • Meet with the Academic Council and the Program Board • Teach the honors freshmen seminar and the capstone seminar • Maintain office operation • Work with Institutional Advancement to raise scholarship funds • Lobby in Albany for state funds at president's request

Accomplishments. • Increased total enrollment from 68 to 200 plus in 5 years • Increased incoming class from 15 to 55/70 a year • Retention rates average 95/95% • Graduation rates in four years average 90/95% • Increased honors classes from 2 to 8 per semester to serve a program that more than

· tripled in 5 years • Negotiated articulation agreement with Community Colleges • Created an Honors Lounge with computers, study room, TV room and kitchen in 2001 e Secured preferred suites in Residence Hall adjacent to Honors Lounge • Secured an office with a full time secretary for the program
