SKILLS AND ABILITIES: • Review patient medical history, take vital signs, identify contra indications for cavitron use and

identify medically compromised patients who need pre medication • Utilize my knowledge of anatomy, physiology and oral pathology in performing head and neck

screenings; also assisting the Dentist in head and neck cancer screenings and caries detection

•!• Provided stewardship for a Clinical Educational Service Partnership with the University of Buffalo's School of Nursing to implement a Dedicated Education Unit (DEU); one of the first in the WNY region. A DEU is an inpatient clinical unit that is developed into an optimal teaching/learning environment. Through collaborative efforts of nurses, management, and faculty, the clinical setting is designed to provide students with a positive clinical learning experience that maximizes the achievement of student learning outcomes. It utilizes proven teaching/learning strategies, and capitalizes on the expertise of both clinicians and faculty. The objectives of the DEU are to: utilize staff nurses to assist undergraduate nursing students in attaining clinical competence; provide clinical education for an increased number of students (a strategy to contend with the looming nursing shortage); assist and support the professional development of staff nurses; and provide a prepared pool of potential resources for workforce recruitment.

•!• Provided stewardship for ECMC to become the region's fifth Designated Stroke Center in April2009 and maintain compliance with annual recertification requirements through 2012.

•!• Provided stewardship for ECMC Emergency Department (ED) nurses in 2011 to complete on-line computerized documentation required to advance federal Meaningful Use objectives and attainment of compensation for compliance with required standards.

•!• Provided stewardship for ECMC to be the first hospital in WNY to implement fully functional Bedside Medication Verification (BMV) technology. BMV safeguards the dispensing of patient medications through the use of barcode scanning technology and addresses the five rights of a patient for medication safety: right patient, right dose, right medication, right time and right route.
