Transas ECDIS conformance to IHO standards

According to IMO and IEC ECDIS standards, adequate software maintenance arrangements shall be

    supported by ECDIS manufacturer.

Manufacturers shall provide customers with timely access, for example by website, to a list showing the

IHO standards currently in effect for ECDIS, ECDIS application software versions, compliance status and

regulatory approvals for the listed configurations/versions.

To comply with the IMO/IEC requirements, Transas always trace changes in IHO Standards followed by

implementing the changes in newer version of ECDIS. The Transas ECDIS: Navi-Sailor 3000 ECDIS-I and

Navi-Sailor 4000 ECDIS MFD (Multifunction Display), fully comply with the following IHO standards:

Implemented edition of the standards Current Edition in force

    NS 3000 ECDIS-I v. 4.00.10 (MNS27)

    NS 4000 ECDIS MFD v. 2.00.xxx (Starting from MNS28)

    Transas ECDIS check issues

Transas confirms that all latest versions of IHO standards have been implemented in new

versions of Transas ECDIS (ref. above compliance table), there may still be discrepancies in

displaying ENC Check dataset against the document ECDIS_check-Instructions_for_Mariners.

Finding these discrepancies does not mean that your ECDIS does not comply with the relevant

standards because they are caused by differences in interpretation of chart display rules.

Details of the discrepancies with explanations are given below.

    1. ECDIS Check Instruction, Section 3 (the checks), Check 1, paragraph 5 says The New object symbol (4) should appear as a square and include the words Presentation Library 3.4 The text Presentation Library 3.4 is not displayed on the screen, while available by cursor pick report (ECDIS Info button). The text is not shown because it has been encoded in this particular ENC test data set in an unusual way, not normally used during normal ENC production.

    2. ECDIS Check Instruction, Section 3 (the checks), Check 3, paragraph 3. Symbol 4 is not displayed with isolated danger symbol in Standard Display mode. This is caused by different interpretation of the IHO presentation library that contains requirement to consider user setting Display isolated danger in shallow water and change content of Standard display according to this setting. The current version of Transas ECDIS has no such setting because this contradicts with IMO/IEC requirement to Standard display ECDIS shall present the Standard Display at any time by a single operator action

If you have only found the two discrepancies listed above and have ECDIS version equal or

    newer than NS 3000 ECDIS-I v. 4.00.10 (MNS27) or NS 4000 ECDIS MFD v. 2.00.xxx (Starting

from MNS28) we suggest you use the Info function for unknown chart objects and always

switch on layer Isolated dangers in the tab Layers of Charts functional panel.

To remove possible anomalies from Transas ECDIS and have more standardized chart

presentation as expected by IHO experts, appropriate changes in the software were

implemented and software patch for MFD ver. 2.00.320 (MNS32) was release in October 2011.

After applying the latest patch to NS4000 ECDIS MFD, all chart symbols in the ENC check

dataset are shown as expected by the IHO documentation.
