ABOUT ECDIS TRAINING
Our ECDIS courses are designed by mariners for mariners. All our trainers are professional seafarers, with practical navigational experience and have extensive knowledge in the use of multiple ECDIS systems, but most importantly, we deliver training accepted by all inspectors and officials world-wide. As our students frequently include Port State Control Officers and SIRE inspectors, prospective students can be assured of both our pedigree and credibility.
The courses remain true to traditional methods of navigation as they are still relevant within the uses of ECDIS today. As such, we remind our students that the principles of seamanship and navigation still apply and teach them how to transfer these skills from paper to ECDIS.

ECDIS GENERIC COURSE
ECDIS GENERIC COURSE
Course Title : STCW, IMO 1.27 Model ECDIS Course (Various Manufacturers Available)
Duration 4 or 5 Days (40 Hours)
Assessment 100% Attendance
The course has been designed for officers in charge of a navigational watch, for experienced officers and other persons with navigational responsibilities. Those attending the course should therefore have experience in performing chartwork and should be able to practice all usual tasks concerning standard navigational procedures and equipment. They should know about the functions and limitations of other navigational equipment.
Based on the IMO 1.27 model, we have optimised our course so it fulfils the 40-hour requirement whilst also covering additional subjects that we consider pertinent to safe ECDIS operation.
Teaching MethodsThe course is evenly split between presentations to build the foundation of knowledge and practical exercises on actual ECDIS equipment to cement understanding. We hold a wide range of different manufacturers’ equipment in our Enav Centre including Transas Navi-Sailor 4000, JRC Jan 2000 and OSI ECPINS.

Courses can be delivered anywhere in the world. We are able to visit you and conduct ‘in house’ training on your own systems, ensuring the highest level of understanding for you and your team. The flexibility of our training means that we can train you on the smallest ECDIS system for yachts, through to large groups of merchant ship ECDIS systems with the same high level of professionalism and integrity.

PrerequisitesECDIS Ltd is not teaching trainees to navigate using ECDIS. It is teaching them to use ECDIS in order to navigate safely. Therefore, we require the trainee to have basic navigation knowledge and to understand what a navigation watch entails. We believe that traditional navigation techniques are still relevant in a digital world so we teach the use of existing navigation skills on an ECDIS system.

The course has been designed for candidates who have completed ECDIS generic training and now require equipment specific training. It has been designed for officers in charge of a navigational watch, for experienced officers and other persons with navigational responsibilities.

Duration 1 Day (8 Hours)

The course has been designed for candidates who have completed ECDIS generic training and now require on-board familiarisation training on their installed equipment. It has been designed for officers in charge of a navigational watch, for experienced officers and other persons with navigational responsibilities.
Teaching MethodsThe course is conducted on the vessel’s ECDIS terminal. The course consists of a series of familiarisation exercises, where the instructor demonstrates and guides where necessary. Where knowledge of the ECDIS exists already, the exercises test user knowledge to a high degree. An assessment is conducted on completion of the exercises to test the knowledge gained. A certificate is issued on completion of the course stating that familiarisation training has been conducted on the specified ECDIS make and model.
In summary, the course consists of the following: Familiarisation exercises, Demonstration, Guidance, Suitable for those with no experience of their ECDIS, Suitable for testing those with experience of their ECDIS, Assessment, System specific certificate.
