People who live in outlying areas from Meadville can be referred to a Lions Club in their area. Questions – call 382-1905. You do not need an appointment.

Happy October, everyone. I believe last month I talked about looking forward to the start of Fall. I’m still looking forward to it! It can start any day now as far as I am concerned. The calendar says it is here, but the weather sure doesn’t. Tucker has settled in back at school and seems to be getting into the routine again. Luke has moved back to Edinboro and will be starting a new job soon. He is excited to begin a new chapter and is still planning on going to graduate school in 2017. So my house is once again eerily quiet and I’m missing them. It still amazes me how accustomed we become to our own living arrangements, whatever they may be. I’m quite sure most of you have had similar experiences. As this year begins to wind to a close (how is that even possible?), Active Aging, Inc. is gearing up for our winter months which will soon be at hand. Shelf stable meals for our home delivered meal consumers have been ordered and will be going out soon. Shelf stable meals are meant for emergency circumstances. We provide these every year to ensure that if our weather should get too bad and our meal delivery is interrupt-ed, no one has to worry about going without a meal. As always, if you know someone who is “actively aging” and could benefit from these services, or others provided by Active Aging, please contact us. Our staff are trained to provide a thorough assessment of every individual and their situation to determine how we can help meet their needs, or if other services or connections would benefit them more. Also, please watch our senior center schedules for activities and events that may interest you or someone you know. If you have any suggestions for different events or activities, please call your local center and talk to our staff about what interests you. Daily and monthly information can also be found on our website, www.activeaging.org, and on Facebook.Krista Geer

Are You Asking For Your Senior Discount? When you are shop-ping at supermarkets and department stores or eating at restaurants do you remember to ask if there are senior discounts when paying your bill? Some busi-nesses offer a discount to their senior custom-ers but for most of them you need to ask for the discount to receive it. Many times there are travel discounts, dis-counts on entertain-ment, discounts on cell phones, hair care, and bus rides that are avail-able just by asking for a senior discount. Dif-ferent kinds of busi-nesses offer discounts and there is not a set age limit to be eligible. For some you must be age 50 and over and

some age 65 and old-er. Ask if a discount is available and take ad-vantage of any that you may qualify for. There are discount lists on the internet for se-

niors, however, due to space limitations, we did not include them here. The most import-ant point we can make is not to be shy about asking for a possible discount.

Big Cash Treasure Hunt$1700 In Treasure was found on Saturday, September 17th

Congratulations to Helpmates Inc. for winning First Place!

Avast me hearties, I have an important announcement to make for all of you landlocked, land lubbers. The Active Aging Foundation had 11 teams of Treasure Hunters come out to hunt for $1,700.00 in Treasure – that’s cold, hard cash me maties – at their 3rd Annual Big Cash Treasure Hunt on Saturday, September 17, 2016. The teams started out & finished at the Community Center of Crawford County in Meadville, Pennsylvania but the rest of the Treasure Map was a mystery and could only be figured out by solving the encrypted clues that each team found along their route! Teams consisted of 2 to 5 members and had to provide their own trans-portation during The Hunt. The Treasure Hunt is not a timed race but instead relies upon a Team’s ability to decipher clues about Treasure Point Sites located throughout Crawford County to find the hidden Treasure of Cash. Aye, it does sound like it was a lot of fun – doesn’t it thou, and very rewarding for the team of Treasure Hunters sponsored by their company, Helpmates, Inc., who found the most Treasure Points giving them the 1st Place Treasure of $1,000.00. The teams started their day right off the bat with a chance to win critical bonus Treasure Points by having their team sporting “Team Theme” costumes – Pirate or otherwise! Additional Trea-sure Point Site Sponsors included: Wesbury, ERA Richmond Real Estate, Home Instead Senior Care, Park Avenue Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Rolling Fields, Northwest Savings Bank, Meadville Medical Center and VFW Post 2006. Treasure Chest Basket Raffle sponsors included Bush Insurance Agency, Glenn Peterson Floors & Furniture, Pfeffer Insurance Group, Vantage, Inc., Marquette Savings Bank, Senior Helpers of Erie, Azalea House Bed & Breakfast and Loeffer’s Flowers & Gifts. General sponsors were PA Sandwiches Shop, Tim Horton’s Bake Shop and Tops Market who all helped supply a light breakfast before the Hunt and lunch after the Hunt. Only a limited number of teams are accepted, so get that peg-leg of yours moving and get a team together for next year’s Treasure Hunt. E-mail [email protected] or call (814)336-1792 to have your name placed on the list for more information and details when they become available for next year’s Hunt. All proceeds benefitted the senior citizens of Crawford County through the programs and services of Active Aging, Inc.
