Overview

ECO Singa pore is organising a n ECO Living Programme fo r b loc ks 1 to 8

at Lorong Lew Lian in conjuction with Braddell Heights Zone B

Reside nts Co mmittee (RC) with vo luntee rs from Sta rbuc ks.

ECO Living Prog ramme is a c om munity g rassroo ts p rog ramme tha t a ims

to relief the burden of low/ middle-income families while doing our bit

for the Earth. We will do this by performing energy, water and waste

audits in HDB households in order to identify and advise on areas for

improvement.

This aud it wa s the fourth one fo r Lorong Lew Lian a nd foc used on the

theme of e nergy and w ater .

recycled

To g a ther feedback from the residents

A representa tive from ECO Singa pore a rrived a t 8 am to p rep are the

nec essary log istics a t the Comm unity Hall nea r bloc k 5.

7 enthusiastic volunteers, inc lud ing 2 from Sta rbucks participa ted in this

audit. At 9.15am, the volunteers did a short self-introduction and

collected their logistics. Each volunteer would get a clipboard

c onta ining the resident info shee ts, aud it c hec klists, voluntee r infoshee t,

feedbac k form a nd sta r stickers.

A briefing was conducted to run through with the

volunteers the procedure to follow when visiting the

residents.

At 9.45am, the vo lunteers then fanned out to the va rious b loc ks.

The vo lunteers were tasked to quiz the residents on the ir awareness of

rec ycling a nd a lso ga ther feed ba c k from them.

By 11.45am, all the volunteers had completed their allocated units and

returned to the C om munity Ha ll.

At 12.30pm, the p rog ramm e o ffic ia lly ended .

Results

A total of 37 households went through the audit. 31 residents were not

at home.

Feedback

Although the number of volunteers were small, but they were very

enthusiastic. Most had done the audit before and even the new ones

c ould p ic k it up ea sily and enjoyed interac ting with the residents!

A feedback form was sent to volunteers and they shared that through

this audit, they were able to understand some of the problems the

residents we re fa c ing . They suggested bet ter use o f rew ards to motiva te

residents. For examp le, som e residents were looking forwa rd to a rew ard

for partic ipa ting in a ll 6 aud its (ie. c ollec ting 6 stickers). Ma ny were a lso

interested in the p a int-job tha t would b e g iven to the to p 5 savers.
