From Director's Desk

This is the last quarter of the year 2013 and

the officers of DES did their best in giving a

booster dose to the Statistical activities of the

State.

Economics and Statistics Division has been

nominated as nodal agency for statistical

activities in the state. It is one of the objectives of

the department to co-ordinate and to give a

logical and reasonable direction to the statistical

work of various state government departments.

The quarter ending December 2013 has a special

significance in finalizing the data especially the

secondary data which are used in different annual

publication of DES. To achieve this department

was busy in arranging meetings of various sub

committees of the line departments. The final

touch to the data was given in the meeting of

Coordination Committee on Statistical Diary and

Coordination Committee on Area, Population,

State Income and Economic Indicators held in

the last week of December.

As far as the collection of primary data are

concerned, to enter into the 71st round of

National Sample Survey, a training cum

workshop program was also organized for the

officers of DES during the month of December.

Beside these activities the field survey work of

Economic Census as well as Business Register

was also in full swing during this quarter.

In the end I must congratulate all the officers

of DES and line department for their best efforts

and I hope that in the new year they will work

with great zeal and will provide required

acceleration to the Statistical activities of the

State.

The Wholesale Price Index, Consumer Price Index-

Urban and Consumer Price Index-Rural for quarter

September 2013 have increased 5.1%, 10.52% and

11.83% respectively from quarter June 2013.The Urban Wage Index for Mason, Carpenter and

Unskilled Labour for quarter September 2013 have

increased 9.27%, 5.91% and 6.6%

respectively from the previous quarter.

The Rural Wage Index for Mason, Carpenter and

Unskilled Labour for quarter September 2013 have

increased 6.94%, 10.42% and 11.87%

8- INDEX OF INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION

In the series of indicies on base year1999-

2000 the last Annual Index of Industrial

Production for the financial year 2012-13 has

been prepared. The index for mining sector is

90.12, for electricity 442.15, for manufacturing

180.75 and the general index is 251.25 . The

general index of financial Year 2012-13

showed an increase of 3.55% from previous

financial year 2011-12. The index of mining

and manufacturing sector have decreased

7.56% and 0.07% and electricity sector has

increased 7.57 respectively from the previous

financial year 2011-12.

The monthly index of industrial

production with new base year 2004-05 is

adopted from April 2013 onwards and old series

of IIP i.e. 1999-2000 base year is discarded from

financial year 2013-14. The monthly index of

industrial production with base year 2004-05 for

the month of April 2013, May 2013 and June

2013 was given in the previous issue of the

ESRUP.

The monthly Index of Industrial

Production for the month of July 2013(P),

August 2013(P), September 2013(P) and

October 2013(Q) of financial year 2013-14 are

available at base year 2004-05 in this period.

The general Index of month July 2013 , August

2013, September 2013 and October 2013 is showing an increase of 8.36%,7.71% ,12.09% and

1.10% respectively from corresponding month of the

previous year i.e. July 2012, August 2012,

September 2012 and October 2012

Beside these the Annual Agriculture volume

& value Index for agriculture year 2010-11(F), 2011-

12(P) and 2012-13 (Q)on base year 2004-05 have also

been prepared during the period. In Annual

Agriculture volume & value Index for agriculture

year 2010-11(F), 2011-12(P) and 2012-13 (Q) The

Annual Agriculture volume Index is estimated 116.11,

122.36 & 125.17 and Annual Agriculture value

Index is estimated 180.50, 207.74 & 239.32

respectively. The Agriculture volume Index of

2011-12 (P)showed an increase of 5.38% from

previous Agriculture year 2010-11(F) & the

Agriculture volume Index 2012-13(Q) has also

increased 2.30%from previous Agriculture year

2011-12(P).The Agriculture value Index of 2011-

12(P) showed an increase of 15.09% from

previous agriculture year 2010-11(F) and the

agriculture year 2012-13 (Q) has also increased

5.20% from agriculture year 2011-12(P) .

9- State Income

The income estimates of the state for the

year 2012-13 have been prepared at current and

constant prices on the base year 2004-05. These

estimates were finalized after the approval of the

same at the meeting of the Sub Committee of

U.P. Statistics Coordination Committee on 'Area,

population, State Income and Economic

Indicators' held on 27 December 2013.

As per the quick estimates of 2012-13

growth in Gross State Domestic Product was

estimated as 5.9 % over 2011-12. Similar sector

wise growth in Primary, Secondary and Tertiary

sectors was 2.9%, 2.3% and 8.7% respectively.

In Net State Domestic Product the contribution of

Primary, Secondary and Tertiary sectors at

current prices was 31.1%, 19.4% and 49.5%

respectively in the year 2012-13 as compared to

32.0%, 20.6% and 47.4% respectively in 2004-

05. The per capita income of the state was

estimated to be Rs. 33137 in 2012-13 as

compared to Rs. 29848 in 2011-12.
