Warren ConsolidatedSchool of Performing Arts

Warren Consolidated School of Performing ArtsThe Warren Consolidated School of Performing Arts (WCSPA) is an

award-winning, national recognized program specializing in all aspectsof theatre performance and production. Classes involve a daily, two-hour,in-depth study program, set in a professional working environment. Allclasses are offered as part of the regular high school curriculum and areopen to students at all three WCS high schools as well as a school ofchoice for students outside of the district. From dance, design anddramatic criticism to stage combat, Shakespeare and sound effects, students receive a complete theatre experience. In addition to dailyclasses with the assigned teaching staff, students are also exposed tovisiting professionals, guest faculty, university workshops, field trips, theatre organizations and scholarship opportunities.

Working together, students and staff produce at least four major pro-ductions each year; each are set in the district’s 800 seat Performing ArtsCenter. In addition to the four major plays and musical performances, students also experiment with smaller productions and original pieces inour 100 seat studio space.

There are a limited amount of new openings to the program each year.Admission is based on an application and audition in the spring of theyear prior to their admittance. Presenting the WCSPA’s 2010-2011 Season

Noises Off-A Hilarious ComedyNovember 19-20, 2010Noises Off is full of non-stop physical comedy. It opens with a troupe of actors prepar-ing to open their comedic masterpiece in less than 24 hours. Much to the dismay of theplay’s director, the “technical” rehearsal is a complete debacle. Act II commences withthe “backstage view” of a performance of the show, with incomplete set pieces, missedentrances, and a whole array of other problems to solve. Love triangles, power strug-gles, absolute chaos and more from this show will keep you laughing all the way home!

Winterfest-A Celebration of the ArtsFebruary 4-5, 2011Winterfest is WCSPA’s annual celebration of the Performing Arts. This unique student-centered performance blends dance, music, acting, and technical design to showcasethe amazing talents of our students. You will be tapping your feet and singing along tomany Broadway favorites as you enjoy solo features, duets, and group performances byall levels. Winterfest allows students to take on leadership and expand their creativitythrough directing, choreography, design and performance.

Narnia-The Children’s MusicalMarch 25-26, 2011This lively children’s musical is based on C.S. Lewis’ timeless adventure “TheChronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe,” and follows the exploitsof the four Pevensie siblings - Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter, who enter the world ofNarnia through a magical wardrobe while playing a game of hide-and-seek in the ruralcountry home of an elderly professor. Once there, the children discover a charming, peaceful land inhabited by talking beasts, dwarfs, fauns, centaurs and giants that hasbecome a world cursed to eternal winter by the evil White Witch, Jadis. Under the guid-ance of a noble and mystical ruler, the lion Aslan, the children fight to overcome theWhite Witch’s powerful hold over Narnia. As a fantastical romp through timeless humanthemes, this show is a delight for children and adults of all ages.

Les Misérable -Broadway Hit MusicalMay 20-21, 2011Based on the novel by Victor Hugo, WCSPA is proud to present the newly releasedStudent Edition of Les Misérables! With a masterful musical score by Alain Boublil andClaude-Michel Schonberg and lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer, Les Misérables is one of themost epic and profound musicals ever written. In this spell-binding musical drama, wecome to grips with the social problem of inequality, which demands reflection upon thenature of society and, therefore, upon the nature of humankind. Hugo’s central charac-ter, Jean Valjean must be convinced, and convince others, that the poor, the outcast —the misérables — are worth saving; that even the most impudent street gamin hassomething to contribute to society and that even the most hardened convict is capableof great good. Lastly, the most appealing and enduring quality of Les Misérables is thefact that it is permeated by an unquenchable belief in the spiritual possibilities of man.
