1.1.2 BatterywarningThisproductcontainsalithiumbattery.Makesureyourespectpolarity(+/-)wheninsertingbatteriesintoTemptimedevices.Reversingpolaritybyinsertingthebatteriesincorrectlycancausetheproducttoheatup,andmayleadtobatteryliquidleakage.UseonlybatteriesrecommendedbyTemptime.Donotchangebatterytypes,suchasrechargeable,alkalineandmagnesium,orusebatteriesofdifferentbrands,orevendifferenttypesofbatteriesofthesamebrand.Incorrectbatteriesmaycausethedevicetoheatup,andmayresultinafireorbatteryliquidleakage.Neverdisposeofbatteriesinfire.Donot
chargeregularbatteriesthatarenotspecificallyrechargeable.Whenthebatteryislow,orincasethebattery-operateddeviceinquestionremainsunusedforalengthyperiodoftime,removethebatteryfromthedeviceinordertoavoidanyriskofbatteryliquidleakage.Neverleavebatterieswithinthereachofchildren.Incaseofabatteryleak,avoidallcontactwiththeliquidpresentonthebatteries.Rinsewithclearwaterimmediatelyincasethebatteryliquidcomesintocontactwiththeeyes,mouthorskin.Contactadoctororemergencyserviceimmediately.Batteryliquidiscorrosiveandcandamagevision,orcauseblindnessorchemicalburns.

2.1 OverviewTheTemptimeEDGEW-200isawirelesstemperatureandhumiditydevicethatintegratesLoRaWAN™technologytoofferverylongrangewirelessconnectivity–upto10miles(16km)line-of-sight.ThismoduleconnectswirelesslytoyourLoRaWAN™receiverinstalledatyoursite,whichtransmitslocallycollectedsensordataviatheInternettotheCloud.TheEDGEConnectwebapplicationisthenusedtoviewandmanagesensorsonaneverydaybasis,withtheEDGEConnectMobileapplicationusedtouploadconfigurations.

Long-rangewirelessconnectivityenablesEDGEW-200modulestobeplacednearlyanywhereinyourbuildingorsite.Incaseswherethesignalisnotstrongenough,asecondLoRaWANreceivermayberequired.PleasecontactTemptimeserviceteamforsupport.

3.4 Howtocheckyourmodule’swirelesssignalNote ThissectionassumesthatyourTemptimeLoRaWAN™receiver(20-50005)isinstalled,
configured,andrunningproperly.SeeTemptimeEDGELoRaGatewayReceiverConfigurationGuideformoredetailsonthereceivercomponent.
ToseewhetheranEDGEW-200moduleiswithinwirelessrangeofthereceiver:
1. Pressthepushbuttononthefrontofthemodule(shortpress).
2. Ifthemoduledetectsareceiver,thetext“ACK_RECEIVED”(acknowledgmentreceived)isdisplayedinthelowerleft-handcornerofthescreen.Otherwise“ACK_NOT_RECEIVED”isdisplayed(seeAppendix-Troubleshootingonpage28ofthisdocument).

3. Ifrequired,testvariousrangesbyplacingyourmoduleatdifferentlocationsaroundyoursiteandrepeatingthistest.
Thisinformalsitetestingprocedurewillenableyoutoverifythatallyourmodulesarecommunicatingcorrectly.
Excessiveobstruction,interference,orharshconditionscanaffectwirelessperformance.PleasecontactTemptimetechnicalsupportforspecificcasesifyouhaveamodulethatishavingdifficultyreachingthereceiver.

3.5 Requirementsandrecommendations• TheEDGEGatewayreceiverrunscontinuously,24/7/365,andshouldbeconnectedtoan
UninterruptiblePowerSupply(UPS)thatprotectsagainstpowersurgesandprovidespowertobackupthereceiver.
• TheEDGEConnectwebapplicationwillshowanalertclearlyonthecomputerscreenifamoduleisnotcommunicating.YoumayalsoverifyconnectionsbypressingthepushbuttonontheEDGEW-200moduleandmakingsure“ACK_RECEIVED”isdisplayed.
• Recommendedmaintenanceandcalibrationproceduresshouldbefollowed.
3.6 PlacingyourEDGEmoduleforbestwirelessperformanceForoptimaloperation,followtheserecommendationswhenphysicallyplacingyourdevice:
• Donotplacethemodulewithin40cm(16in.)ofanothermodule.• Makesurethewirelessmoduleisnotplacedonanelectricalconduitorcabletray(suchasfor
computernetworkcables).• Forbestresults,placethemodulesothatitfacesthegeneraldirectionofthereceiver.• Keepabout20cm(8in.)ofclearspacearoundthemodule.Forexample,amodulethatis
“stuck”betweentworefrigeratorsmaynotcommunicateeffectively.• Makesureallcables,ifany,arefirmlyattachedandthatsensorsareproperlyinsertedinthe
appropriatechamber.

3.7 Preparingmountingkitwithamagnet(optional)YourEDGEW-200moduleincludesaplasticholdersoyoucanmountthedeviceeasilyonvarioussurfaces.Inadditiontotheprovidedscrews,youwillalsofindamagneticpadwithadhesivebackingthatyoucanattachtotheholderandthenadheretheholdertometalsurfaceseasily.
1. Cleanthebackoftheholderwithamildcleanseroralcohol.
2. Removetheprotectionfromtheadhesivepadonthemagnetandplacethemagnetonthebackoftheholder
3. Placetheholderandmagnetdownonaflatsurfaceandpressdownstronglyfor30secondstofirmlyattachthemagnet.

TheproceduresdescribedinthisdocumentassumethatyourEDGELoRaGatewayreceiverisupandrunning,andthatyouhavecreatedanaccountontheEDGEConnectwebapplication(withavouchertoauthorizeCloudaccess).ThissectionfocusesonthephysicalaspectsoftheEDGEW-200module.

4.1 ConnectingSmartSensors™TheEDGEW-200moduleandexternalPT100sensors(anddualtemperature/humiditysensors)providedbyTemptimeareindependentofeachotherwithrespecttocalibration.Acalibratedexternalsensorstoresitsowncalibrationparametersdirectly,andthuscanbeusedwithanyEDGEW-200module.
EDGEW-200moduleswithsupportforexternalsensorsuseaspeciallydesignedTemptimeSmartSensortechnologythatoffersseveralkeyadvantageswithrespecttoconventionalsolutions:
• CalibrationcorrectionparametersarestoreddirectlyintheSmartSensor
• Plugandplayfunctionalitywithnospecialconfigurationonyourpart
• Moduleindependencefromsensortype:anysupportedTemptimesensorcanbeusedwithanygivenEDGEW-200module,simplifyingrepairs,swaps/standardexchange,andcalibrationcycles

Thisfeatureoffersaneffectivewaytohandlesensorsatcalibrationtime(dependingonyourstandardoperatingprocedure)withoutleavingyourequipmentunattended.Simplyhaveacalibratedsensoron-handandswapitwiththeonethatneedscalibration.
Insert the cable from your module into the keyed plug on the EDGE Smart Sensor connector.

4.2 PlacingSmartSensors™
4.2.1 Generalnoteaboutsensorplacement
• GiventheextremetemperaturerangestypicallyhandledbyPT100sensors,pleasebesuretousethePT100-compatiblemountingsystemprovidedwithyourfreezer,oven,nitrogentank,orotherequipment.
Asmentionedearlier,theEDGEwirelessmonitoringsystemsupportsthreedifferentPT100temperaturesensors,eachdesignedforadifferentapplicationandtemperaturerange.PlacementofyourPT100sensor(s)dependsontheequipmentyouintendtomonitor,asdescribedbelow.
Inallcasesdescribedinthissection,theplasticconnectorjoiningthemoduleandthesensormustbeinthesametemperaturespaceasthemodule,notthesensor.
Note WhenroutingthecableforanyEDGEsensor,avoiddirectcontactwithorcloseproximityplacementofthesensorcablingwithanyhighvoltagewiring.Cablingshouldbeplacedwithnolessthanaminimumof5cm(2inches)distancefromhighvoltagecomponents.Also,avoidrunningthesensorcableinparallelwithhighvoltagewiring.
Yourequipmentmaybedifferentthanthatdescribedhere.Contactthemanufacturerofyourequipmentforinstructionsregardingproperplacementofthesensor.
4.2.2 PT100:-100°Cto+150°C
WheninstallingaPT100sensorinanultra-low-temperature(ULT)freezer,itiseasiesttoproceedwithathawedfreezer.
Whenpossible,routethesensorthroughthesameaccessportusedbytheunitcontrolsensororanaccessoryport,suchasthatshownbelowinFigure6.
WhenroutingthePT100sensorthroughthesameportusedbythecontrolsensor,Temptimerecommendsinstallingthesensoronlyafterthefreezerhasreachedathawedstate.
Tonegatethepossibilityofcondensationdrippingontheelectronics,avoidroutingthecableincloseproximitytoanyelectricalenclosures.
MountthePT100sensorasclosetotheunitcontrolsensoraspossible.Whenpossible,werecommendmountingthesensorwithin5cm(2inches)ofthecontrolsensor.
WhenmountingthePT100sensor,avoiddirectcontactwiththewallofthefreezer.Thiswillensurethesensorismountedtopermitmeasurementofairtemperatureonly.

WedonotrecommendinstallingthesensorthroughthedoorgasketonaULTfreezer.Thisleadstoexcessiveicebuild-upandpossibledoordamageaswellaslongercompressorruntimesthatmayresultinothermechanicalproblems.
Theorangecable,whichsupportstemperaturesfrom-200°Cto+50°C,maybeplacedinsidethefreezer.Makesureyouattachthesensorusingtheprovidedcable-tiesandresealanyopeningsyoumayhaveunsealedtoinsertthesensorusingpermagumsealant.

4.2.3 PT100:-200°Cto+50°C
PT100sensorsforLN2/cryogenictanksmustbemounted,whenapplicable,incloseproximitytotheunitdisplaysensor.
Toavoidtemperaturemeasurementdisappearances,Temptimerecommendsmountingthesensoratthesameheightasthedisplaysensor.
Asanexample,somefreezershaveanaccesspanelonthebackoftheunitinwhichyoumayroutethesensorcableupthebackwall.Placethecableunderthetankgasketutilizingthenotchatthe12o’clockposition.Werecommendtheinstallationofpermagumsealantwherethecablepassesthroughthenotch.
Dependingonwhetherstoringinvapororliquidphase,placethesensoratadepthsuitableforpropertemperaturemonitoring.

Dependingonthedesignofthespacetobemonitored,youmaybeabletopassthesensorthroughanaccessportoropening.Werecommendthatyouusetheaccessportoropeningifoneisavailable.
1. Wheninstallationpermitsroutingthesensorcablingthroughanaccessportoropening,connectthemaleendofthesensorfirmlyintothefemaleendoftheEDGEwirelessmodule.
2. Wheninstallationrequirespassagethroughthedoorgasketseal,connectthemaleendofthesensorintothefemaleendoftheprovidedflatcableadaptorbyjoiningtheconnectors(withoutunscrewingthem).ThenconnecttheotherendoftheflatcableintotheendoftheEDGEwirelessmodule.
ExternaldigitalsensorsdonotconnecttomodulesviatheEDGESmartSensorsolution.Therefore,calibrationparametersmustbemanagedusingtheEDGEConnectwebapplicationandEDGEConnectMobileapplicationforuploadthemtothemodule.

5.2 Placingthesensor1. IfyouhaveanEDGEmodulewithoneormoreexternalsensors,thebestsolutionistousethe
accessportoropeningtoinsertthesensor(s).Otherwise,runthetemperaturesensorintotheenclosureviathedoorjoint,takingcaretoplacetheflatcableflushwiththejoint.

2. Cleanthesurfaceforthesensorusingalcoholtoremoveanygreaseordirt.
3. Attachoneoftheplasticcableholderstothesensor,removetheprotectivestripfromtheadhesive,andplacetheholderonthecleanspotinsidetheenclosure.
Insert the cable from your module into the keyed plug on the sensor connector.

Ifyouarehavingdifficultieswithyourconfiguration,lookatthesefrequentlyaskedquestionsbeforecontactingtechnicalsupport.
ThereisnothingdisplayedontheEDGEmodulescreen.WhatshouldIdo?First,checktomakesurethebatteryisinstalledandthatitisinsertedintherightdirection(+/-accordingtotheimageinthebatteryslot).Trytestingtheunitwithabatterythatisknowntobeofthecorrectsizeandvoltage(3.6VLithium,3600mA).ContacttechnicalsupportifthebatteryisOKandstillnothingisdisplayedonthescreen.
Ipressthebuttonfor3secondsbutmyEDGEW-200moduledoesnotconnecttomyreceiver;whatshouldIdo?Ifyourmoduledisplays“ACK_NOT_RECEIVED”insteadof“ACK_RECEIVED”whenyoupressthebutton,trybringingthemoduleclosertoyourreceiverforabetterwirelessconnection.Also,checktomakesurethereceiverisworkingproperly.
TheEDGEmoduleisproperlyconnectedtotheCloud.Whydon’tIgetanytemperaturereadings?Thisisusuallyduetoaloosecableorimproperlyconnectedtemperaturesensor.CheckthecablebetweentheEDGEmoduleandthesensor.Unplugthesensorandplugitbackin.Makesuretherearenoexposedwires.Tryadifferentsensor.
Canexternalsensorsbesubmergedinglycol?Yes,forallmetal-tippedsensors,butnotthedualtemperature/humiditysensor(withthewhiteTeflon/PTFEcasing).To“absorb”suddenvariationsintemperature,suchasthosecausedbyopeningandclosingthechamberdoor,youmaysubmergethemetalpartofthesensoringlycolorglycerol.Thislimitsinconsequentialtemperaturevariationsrecordedbythesensor.Checkyourlaboratory’sQualityguideforrecommendationsandmakesuretouseavolumeofglycolthatcorrespondstothevolumeofproduct(s)youaremonitoring.Toachievethesameresults,youmayalsodelaythetransmissionofalarmsviathesoftwareandleavethesensorsexposed.
