Please click on that blue hyperlink and this will load the form I have been completing for you.

Let me know when it loads, it should read ‘Thanks for Choosing Careers Australia’ at the top.

Ok so now that it’s loaded please scroll down the bottom of the page, you will notice that we’re on

page 1 of 8, I’ve filled out the first 5 pages for you, so please click the red ‘NEXT’ button until page

6. It says VET-FEE HELP at the top.

This is the VET-FEE HELP page so please check the details in the centre of the page in the

middle for me including:

- Name

- DOB

- Diploma

- Gender

- Citizenship Status

It is very important that the government receive the correct information for this VET-FEE HELP

request.

Ok so now please just scroll down the page and you will see a box where you can pop your tax file

number in. Please put that in there just to confirm that you are an Australian citizen for this VET-

FEE HELP request and to make sure you are eligible.

After that’s done just tick the box above the tax file number field, it’s quite small right next to the

words ‘by clicking this box’.

When that’s all done, just click next and that will take you to a final page.

So on page 7, this is the VET FEE HELP Declaration Page you will find a box on the bottom left of

the page, please click that box to indicate that you have read and understand the obligations on

page 7.

So on Page 8 there is a box in the same spot as there was on Page 7. This box is to confirm that

OPTION ONE: CENTRELINK/MYGOV Do you have the Centrelink app called ‘express plus’ on your phone?

recently then we might have to head to the website. But let’s try this first,

So, just open the app up and let me know when you’re on the home screen.

Click on the ‘STATEMENTS’ icon on the home screen and let me know what document options

are available for you to view.

The statement we need to open is a PAYMENT STATEMENT or PAYMENT SUMMARY

Once you have loaded the document your TFN should be up on the TOP RIGHT HAND SIDE

Once you have logged on you will see a REQUEST A DOCUMENT’ option on the right hand side

VET-FEE HELP YOU ARE ELIGIBLE FOR FEE-HELP ASSISTANCE FOR A UNIT OF STUDY IF YOU:

- are undertaking study with an approved provider or through Open Universities Australia

(OUA)

- meet citizenship and residency requirements - humanitarian visa

- are enrolled in an eligible unit of study by the census date for the unit

- are enrolled in a fee paying place for that unit

- meet the tax file number (TFN) requirements - if you don't have a TFN - you can get a

certificate of application

- read the FEE-HELP information for 2015 booklet (the booklet) before completing and

submitting a valid Request for FEE-HELP assistance form (the form) for the unit of study or

the course of study by the census date, and

- have not exceeded the FEE-HELP limit ($96,000)

WHEN DO I HAVE TO REPAY MY HELP DEBT? You have to start repaying your HELP debt through the taxation system once your repayment

income is above the compulsory repayment threshold, even if you are still studying. The

compulsory repayment threshold is adjusted each year. The compulsory repayment threshold for

the 2014 15 income year is $54,126.

Repayment income is calculated from the amounts given on your income tax return for:

• your taxable income;

• reportable fringe benefits (reported on your payment summary);

• total net investment loss (which includes net rental loss);

• reportable super contributions; and

• exempt foreign employment income amounts

HOW MUCH WILL MY REPAYMENTS BE? The amount you repay each year is a percentage of your repayment income. The percentage

increases as your income increases, so the more you earn, the higher your repayment will be. The

ATO will calculate your compulsory repayment for the year and include it on your income tax

notice of assessment.

IS THERE A LOAN FEE? A 20% loan fee applies for VET FEE HELP loans accessed by full fee paying/fee for service

students. The loan fee does not count towards your FEE HELP limit.

You will not incur the loan fee if you are a student who is subsidised by a state or territory go

HOW MUCH CAN I BORROW? There is a set maximum amount you can borrow through VET FEE-HELP (and FEE-HELP) over your

lifetime. This is known as the FEE-HELP limit. In 2015, the FEE-HELP limit is $97,728. The FEE-HELP limit

is indexed on 1 January each year.

DOES MY PREVIOUS STUDY AFFECT MY ELIGIBILITY FOR VET FEEHELP? Only previous study paid with a VET FEE-HELP (or FEE-HELP) loan will affect the amount of VET

FEE-HELP you can borrow.

HOW DO I REPAY THE LOAN AND IS INTEREST CHARGED? Your HELP debt is repaid through the tax system. In the 2014-15 income year, you will be required

to make a compulsory repayment if your income is $54,126 or above. The debt is indexed each

year to maintain its real value, but is otherwise interest free.

At the time this brochure went to print, the Australian Government had announced, but not

legislated, changes to the HELP voluntary repayment bonus (to be in effect from

(1 January 2015). Until the relevant legislation is passed, the current arrangements apply.

CURRENT ARRANGEMENTS Voluntary repayments of $500 or more receive a 5% bonus. This means your account at the ATO

will be credited with an additional 5% of the value of your repayment, not 5% of your outstanding

debt. For example, if you make a voluntary repayment of $500, the bonus increases the value of

your repayment so your account will be credited with $525.

PROPOSED ARRANGEMENTS If the proposed changes go through, voluntary repayments would no longer be eligible to receive a

bonus. For example, if you made a voluntary repayment of $500, your account would be credited

with $500 only.
