Hoe sou hy nie die aandstilte nou geniet het nie. sou hy hom soos al die jare, tuismaak op sy gunsteling gemakstoel om uit sy Bybel te lees, of sou hy rugby terugflitse gekyk het en notas geneem
het waar sy eie suidwes span beter kon vaar.sy lekkerste tye was natuurlik op Hentiesbaai, by ons strandhuisie se agter stoep se braai. Dikwels net hy, my ma en ek, want ek was die laatlam. Ons kon ure gesels oor die toekoms en drome. Pa was die beste braaier nog; sy skoene was altyd blink, hy het nooit voorgegee wat hy nie is nie en sy lojaliteit en passie was nie net by rugby nie, maar by die landbou industrie, die boere en sy land. sy groot droom was ‘n plaas.Hy het my van respek geleer, vir jouself, die natuur en om ‘n pad met jou skepper te stap. sy gerusstellende figuur was gereeld langs die netbalveld. Hy het diep spore in sport en landbou geloop. Hy was ‘n man
met baie deernis vir elke mens, ‘n groot inspirasie, vir elkeen wat hom geken het. Hierdie jaar sou hy 73 wees.Met Vadersdag hierdie maand, hoop ek elkeen van julle eer en waardeer jul vaders. Hulle is die standvastige ankers, wat voorsien, beskerm en leiding gee. Maak tyd om hom te vertel hoe baie hy beteken en hoe baie jy hom liefhet.ek glo dat Housefinder – wat hierdie jaar 6 jaar oud is - net so ‘n groot impak op ander maak as my pa destyds.
