Article 28: You have the right to a good quality education.
You should be encouraged to go to school to the highest level you can.
Here at Marlborough School we enjoy a good relationship with our parents. We work closely with parents to get the best education for the pupils who attend our school. Because of this we have to enforce the laws surrounding taking children out of school for a holiday or to extend the school holiday, as we feel every minute matters.
Last academic year Marlborough Pupils lost 622 school days from term time holidays.
This year our pupils have lost 346 days already.
On average 15 pupils do not return on the first day back to school (after a break) and even more don’t stay until the last day of the school year.
It is very important for your child to experience every minute of school life for their academic levels and for their social experience.
Please support the school by not taking time off before and after breaks or booking holidays in term time.
HOW YOUR CHILD’S ATTENDANCE AT SCHOOL IS CATEGORISED

96% - 97.9% Satisfactory Our school’s minimum expectation
95% - 95.9% Unsatisfactory 2 weeks of absence 50 lessons missed

Under 90% Persistently Absent More than 4 weeks of absence Over 100 lessons missed
On Saturday 19 May the country will be celebrating the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Here at Marlborough we will be holding our own celebration on Friday 18 May. There will be a range of both fun and educational activities for children to participate in, including dressing up, learning about the monarchy and writing a letter to Buckingham Palace. These lessons will reinforce and promote the British values of mutual respect and tolerance which are embedded within the school. Children may come to school in either the wedding attire of any culture or in the British colours of red, white and blue. There will be a special ‘Royal Wedding’ menu served on Friday for those children requesting a hot lunch. The charge for this will be £1.87 as usual, payable through ParentPay. Details of the menu will be sent home on Monday. In the afternoon there will be class parties where children are asked to bring in party food to share with the class. (Please remember however that we are a nut free school.) School Royal Bake Off Challenge Competition There will also be a Royal Baking Competition where children can bake and decorate a cupcake based on the Royal Wedding. If your child would like to enter they should bring one decorated cupcake masterpiece into school on Thursday 17 May, clearly labelled with their name and class. Entries should be handed to the class teacher. Once again please remember that we are a nut free school. We do hope that everyone will join in with the fun.
Article 29:
Your education should help you learn to live peacefully, protect the
environment and respect other people.
Our plants have begun to grow!
Some of the plants have got too big for the
greenhouse so we have started to plant
them into our garden beds.
Miss Kangas showed us how we needed to
plant them so they would grow up the
bamboo tepees we made.
We will be continuing to water them everyday so they grow big and
strong and ready for us to eat!
We then dug holes around the tepee sticks, planted the bean plants
and covered them with dirt.
AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS DURING 14—18 MAY Just a reminder that during SATS week teacher led after school clubs will not be running, this also includes the Re:generation Club.
If your children normally attend these clubs, please ensure that they are collected at 3.25pm. After school clubs will resume the following week.
Please note that Year 2 booster groups, gym club and k-kwondo will run as usual.
Year 6 booster groups finish on 11 May.
SEND COFFEE MORNING
Our SEND coffee morning was a huge success with a great turnout of parents both with SEND children and non-SEND children. We were joined by two outside agencies that work in Harrow – SENDIAS and HP4DC (Harrow Parents 4 Disabled Children). They gave our parents lots of information and leaflets about the facilities within Harrow regarding SEND children. Parents were able to seek advice from the agency representatives and school staff present. In addition they were also able to try out resources currently used within the school which support the children with their learning and social skills. We look forward to our next coffee morning where we would like to see even more of our SEND parents, so we can work together at Marlborough to help get the best out of our children.
Mrs Fadairo, SENCO

YEAR 1 TRIP TO KEW GARDENS
“I liked it when we went on the tree top because it was really high. I learnt about an oak tree.”
Shamla, Banksy Class
“When I went up to the tree tops I was scared but then when we got up there I looked down and I wasn’t scared. I felt happy and brave.”
Zaina, Banksy Class
“I liked going on the dragon hunt. It was really fun going on the tree top.”
Zara, Banksy Class
“I like Kew Gardens because it makes me excited and fun. I learned to find some dragons.”
Saliha, Banksy
Year 1 travelled to Kew Gardens to explore the wonderful world of plants.
The warm weather gave the children the ideal opportunity to roam around the massive gardens and greenhouses, including the recently restored Temperate House.
Perhaps most exciting of all was the Treetop Walkway, eighteen metres above the ground, giving the children a fantastic view of the forest canopy.
We would like to thank all of our parents who joined us on the trip; your help is appreciated.
“On Tuesday we were going on a trip. We were going to Kew Gardens. We got into our groups and got ready to go.
We went on a coach it was a bit big.
We went in and had lunch in a giant circle on the grass. After we went on a dragon hunt. We found a dragon as it had lots of patterns on it. Before all of that I was so excited!”
Mariam, Banksy Class
RECEPTION TRIP TO THE FOREST SCHOOL
“First we went on a coach. Then we saw the Friendship Tree. Next we made our stick men. Then we had hot chocolate. Finally we had a picture.”
Divyam, Lennon Class
Each of our Reception Classes have been lucky enough to pay two visits to the Forest School this term.
During the sessions the children explored the surrounding woodland as part of a nature walk and searched for twigs and leaves to make a collage. Children visited the Friendship Tree and made friendship bracelets as well as enjoying a drink of hot chocolate.
A big thank you to all of our parents who helped out on these trips. Without their help trips such as these would not be possible.
SCHOOL LUNCHES
Just a reminder that children’s lunch accounts should always be in credit. School lunches cost £1.87 per day.
Please ensure that you check your child’s ParentPay account regularly and top up as required.
Thank you for your support in this matter.
