Dear Brothers and Sisters of the Basilone Lodge, As my tenure as your President draws to a close, I reflect on the many contributions, you as individuals and as a group, have given. I am so proud of all of you and how far we have come. It is up to us to move forward to keep our lodge going and to celebrate our culture in the best possible way. Our New President Robert Donato has been my right hand man as our VP for the last 2 years. He took over for me after my accident at many functions and meetings that I could not attend. He and Angela have been very helpful to me. Bob will be a wonderful President! He has the knowledge and capacity to be our President and to continue in the goals of OSIA.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish the New Board of Incoming Officers my Congratulations. I am confident that you will fulfill your obligations to the best of your ability and do a wonderful job in the process.

San Valentino of Terni, is a widely recognized third-century Roman Saint commemorated on February 14
and since the High Middle Ages is associated with the tradition of courtly love. The exact origins of
Valentine's Day are difficult to determine, but there are indications that the holiday may have roots in
both Roman and Norman tradition dating back to ancient Roman history and about 300 C.E. Between
February 13 and 15 in ancient Rome, a holiday known as Lupercalia was celebrated. This was a rather brutal
and violent festival during which men would slaughter animals, consume them and then use the animals'
hides to whip women as part of a fertility ritual. The festival also included a matchmaking process in which
men and women would be paired up based on a random lottery. The Norman holiday known as Galatin's
Day was celebrated around the same time in the calendar year, and this holiday's similarity to the word
'Valentine' may also provide clues as to the modern holiday's origins. Additionally, the word 'Galatin' means
'lover of women,' which points to the more romantic side of the modern Valentine's Day.

LODOVICO FERRARI; Mathematician- born Bologna,
Italy February 2,1522-October 5, 1565
His grandfather, Bartholomew de Ferrari, was forced out of Milan to Bologna. Lodovico settled in
Bologna, Italy and he began his career as the servant fo Gerolamo Cardano. He was extremely
bright, so Cardano started teaching him mathematics. Ferrari aided Cardano on his solutions for
quadratic equations and cubic equations, and was mainly reponsible for his solutions for quadratic
equations and cubic equations, and was mainly responsible for the solution of quartic equations that
Cardano published. While still in his teens, Ferrari was able to obtain a prestigious teaching post after
Cardano resigned from it and recommended him. Ferrari eventually retired young and quite rich. He
then moved back to his home town of Bologna where he lived with his widowed sister Maddalena to
take up a professorship of mathematics at the University of Bologna in 1565. Shortly thereafter,
he died of white arsenic poisoning according to legend-administered to him by his sister..,
To those of your celebrating your special day
in February, A quelli di tuo celebrare il
vostro giorno speciale nel mese di Febbraio,
ENZO FERRARI, FEB. 18, 1898-AUGUST 14-1988 Modena, Italy.
He was the younger of 2 children born to Alfredo & Adalgisa Ferrar (Bisbini).
Enzo grew up with little formal education. At the age of 10 he witnessed
Felice Nazzaro’s win at the 1908 Circuit di Bologna, an event that inspired
him to become a racing driver. In WWII, he was assigned to the third Alpine
Artillery division of the Italian Army. After the collapse of his family’s
carpentry business he took a job as tes-driver for C.M.N. (Costruzioni
Meccaniche Nazionali), a Milan-based car manufacturer. He was promoted to
race car driver and made his debut in the 1919 Parma-Poggio di Berceto hill
climb race, finishing 4th. In 1924 Ferrari won the Coppa Acerbo at Pescara.
He was Sporting Director at Alfa Romeo,
but left to form Auto-Avio Costruzioni.
The Italian Grand Prix was held just weeks after his death, at age 90,
resulting in a 1-2 finish for Ferrari.
