Commodore’s recap of the October Board Meeting:
The minutes of the October 1, 2009 Board meeting were compiled by Faye Scott and summarized as follows:
The flooring project has been completed with a total cost of $41,538. For our information, Treasurer Gary Ytreeide will capitalize this over a 7 year span, the books reflecting a monthly administrative expense of $500.00 beginning October 2009.
Rear Commodore Jose Garcia reported on the Port Mansfield Race which was an interesting and occasionally exciting event.( Jose and I were on the same boat and had a galloping time until 3 A.M. when the winds went to zilch. The GPS showed we would not arrive until after the party so needless to say the engine was used for the next 5 hours during which time the local thunder showers knocked us about . Since motoring time is doubled and added to actual we not surprisingly came in 2nd in our class which contained 2 boats. Se la vie.)
Director Shirley Paxton presented Sig and Mary Murphy for membership and they were approved .
Director Felix Keeley reported on club rentals. He noted we are missing tables and chairs from the club plus the furniture on the porches needs replacing. The Board unanimously approved spending up to $2000.00 for these items.
Director Geoff Bywater stated that the function of the long range Finance and Planning Committee had effectively been placed on hold. He recommends a posi-tion be created – New Member Liaison- who would welcome new members to make sure they meet and visit with all members.
Geoff also reminded us of a lack of presence on the Chamber of Commerce web-site for the RYC. Commodore McBurney will follow up with Mary Lynn Hooker, Director of Public Relations.

FROM THE VICE-COMMODORE:
Things are now back in full swing at the Rockport Yacht Club. The fall racing series is about half way completed, we’ve got a great new floor in the clubhouse, and Vic Popiwny has finally given us the proof that the new grill works on Friday evenings.
We how a heap of thanks to Vic & Bonnie Popiwny for hosting two meals at recent Friday night happy hour…Burgers one night, followed two weeks later by genuine New York “hot link” Hot Dogs. We’ve still got plenty of slots open on future Friday evenings for aspiring guest chefs…just call or send me a note and we’ll work it out.
A hearty thanks also goes out to Nap & Elayne Arne for hosting our most recent monthly meeting dinner with their outstanding Oktoberfest fare…everybody had a great time. Our next monthly meeting will be on Thursday, 12 November 2009. The dinner will feature a “Cook Your Own Steak Night” hosted by Felix Keeley and me. In addition to whatever steak you decide is “the one for you,” we will be providing Salad, a potato dish, and Bread to round out your meal. We will also be presenting the awards for the fall sailing series at this meeting. Stand by for further details.
For our big event this month, we’ll be having our annual Halloween Costume Party at the clubhouse on Friday, 30 October. Look in this issue for more details on the evening.

Halloween Costume Party...yup, costumes are required. Or at least we'll be making fun of those not in costume Friday, 30 October 2009.
We'll be having burgers with all the fixins for dinner and Danny the DJ to provide music to dance by following dinner.
Bar will open at 5:00 PM, Dinner at 6:00 PM, and the music will start shortly afterwards.
A cover charge of $7.50 per person...and there will be prizes for the best (and worst) costumes.
Come one out, join the fun, bring a guest!!
