Acta Psychologica 70 (1989) l-2 North-Holland EDITORIAL ANNOUNCEMENT As of January 1, Andries Sanders has stepped down as the managing editor of Acta Psychologica. Andries Sanders joined the group of editors in 1976 and became managing editor in 1980. For all these years, he has been such an ardent promotor of our journal that for many of us Sanders’ name has become more or less synonomous with Acta Psychologica. During this time, Acta has flourished well and has become one of the major psychonomically oriented journals, an accom- plishment that has been to a large extent due to the effort and enthusiasm of Andries Sanders. On behalf of the readers of Acta Psychologica I would like to say: Thank you, Andries. As a result of this, all new manuscripts should now be submitted to the new managing editor, Dr. Jeroen G.W. Raaijmakers, TN0 Institute for Perception, P.O. Box 23, 3769 ZG Soesterberg, The Netherlands. We are glad to announce that Dr. Gerard van Galen of the Univer- sity of Nijmegen has accepted our invitation to take on editorial responsibility for the Human Performance section, together with Dr. Paul Keuss. Acta Psychofogica will continue to publish original, high quality papers in human experimental psychology. In order to serve its purpose better there will be two major changes. First of all, the new section on Cognitive Ergonomics will gradually become more visible. This section will present original studies which address cognitive-psychogical aspects of the use of computers and other information-processing systems. We invite our readers to submit papers that fall into this category to Acta Psychoiogica. We hope that the well-known high reviewing standards of our journal will lead researchers to submit their best papers to our journal. A second change concerns the start of a new book review section. In this section important new books that fall within the scope of the journal will be reviewed by qualified referees. We expect this new section to be of interest to our readers and we believe that it will be widely read. We invite publishers to submit books in the area of human OOOl-6918/89/$3.50 0 1989, Elsevier Science Publishers B.V. (North-Holland)

experimental psychology to the managing editor. Whether or not a book will be subsequently reviewed will depend on the judged interest to our readers. For reasons of cost, we will not return any submitted books to the publisher.

The quality of a journal depends not only on the quality of the submitted manuscripts but also on the standards maintained in the reviewing process. I would like to take this opportunity to invite qualified persons that are willing to review a few manuscripts per year to write me a letter indicating their area of expertise and whether they would also be willing to review books in that area. Together we may be able to maintain Acta’s position as one of the leading journals in experimental psychology.
