President’s Message

Dear Beta Chi Sisters,

READY, SET, GO! The new school year is off and running! Teachers as well as students are bursting with enthusiasm and high hopes for a year of abundant growth and learning. Like-wise, our chapter is entering a new biennium full of spirit and anticipation. Much appreciation goes to our officers, committees, and chairpersons for planning informative programs and interesting activities where all members can share their unique talents and experiences.

Just think, we are members of DKG, the largest professional women’s organization in the world! We are entrusted with the responsibility and power to make a real difference in the lives of educators and the children they teach. Let us each commit to doing the very best that we can while enjoying the fellowship of our special sis-terhood.

Following the recommendation of our Alpha Del-ta State leadership, the Board has chosen to support Foster Children in our area as our ser-vice project. Please take time to view the list of needed items (later in this newsletter) to be col-lected at any meeting throughout the year.

State Executive Board Meeting Saturday, October 20, 2018...Newark, Ohio

Throwback to Teaching

Debbie Davis

I loved teaching physical education at Maple-wood Elementary, especially around Hallow-een! I had the perfect stage in the gymnasi-um, which I transformed into a "haunted ar-ea", complete with spooky sounds in the background. The children loved all the deco-rations, including their own "friendly" Casper the Ghost! The gym activities for that month centered around the Halloween decorations.

Beta Chi Chapter held an organizational meeting on June 14, 2018 at the home of Ann Fetrow. Those in attendance were Donna Lewis, Anna Mae Cuchna, Marilyn Johnson, Joyce Faiver, Debbie Davis, Juanita Barber, Barbara Layfield, Eileen Hazel, Donna Pate, Wendy Spoerr, Linda Falactic, Judy Fatobene, Mary Bumstead, Shirley Stocz, Sharon Vross Jarvis, Sandy Bilovesky, Carol Hart, and Stephanie Gabbard.

Members introduced themselves and stated their positions for the upcoming year. Committee chairs explained their programs and the locations where they will be held. All programs were booked.

There was discussion concerning the Service Project for this year. It was decided to focus on Foster Care. More information will be given at the next meeting. It is necessary to also focus on getting new members this year. The Founders’ Day program will be arranged by the May Committee instead of the First Vice President. It was discussed that the program should be centered on the women who were vital to our chapter and its history. It was voted that Linda Ross be put on reserve membership. Wendy will attend the International Convention in Austin from July 16-20. Linda will call for a Finance Committee meeting in July or August. Our first Chapter meeting is in October. The Tri- County joint Chapter meeting will be October 17th at Ala Carte. The State Executive Board will meet in Columbus on October 20th.
