Overview: key info

• Projects to support and explore creative approaches to teaching and learning about the violent past

• Deadline for applications: Weds. 20th October @ 16:00 BST

• Maximum budget: GBP 25,000

• Project timeline: Maximum duration 9 months, with start date 1 February 2022

• We will fund between 13-19 projects

What types of projects will we fund?

• Projects that align with our values and at least one of our themes (on next slide)

• Projects that do at least one of:

• Develop / use creative ways to teach and learn about violence and injustice

• Research the impact of ongoing initiatives

• Develop and share creative materials

• Develop new theoretical or methodological understandings

What types of projects will we fund?• EdJAM understands education very

broadly, including learning in:

• community spaces and social organising

• online

• through arts

• in heritage spaces and practices

• in everyday life

• in schools, Universities and nonformal education sites

• Etc.

• We are interested in teaching and learning about violence and injustice and in the complexities around past, present and ongoing violence.

What types of projects will we fund?

All projects should share learning from their work:

• On our website

• Through at least one creative output:

✓Curricular resource

✓Artwork

✓Music

✓Theatre

✓Exhibition

✓Digital technology

✓Video

✓Education guide

✓Etc.

EdJAM will also support the development of academic publications

Eligibility and due diligence• Project lead / PI must be based in a

country on the OECD DAC list

• Project lead / PI must be based at an organisation who will host the project and with whom University of Bristol (UoB) will sign a contract

• Project team can also include individuals from other organisations and other countries, but this is not required

• UoB will undertake a due diligence check, including:

• Ability to deliver

• Governance and control

• Financial stability

• Sub-contract management (if applicable)

Please read the due diligence information on the website and contact us early with any concerns or queries

NOTE RE: APPLICATIONS FROM INDIA: We will not be able to award grants to any organisation from India that does not hold an FCRA license and SBI bank account. We appreciate this can be a long and complicated process to obtain. We are therefore happy to accept applications from organisations that are applying for these on the condition that proof that they have been obtained them is submitted to us by no later than 08.11.21. If this documentation is not received by this date, the application will not be able to proceed further.

How to apply?

Download and complete:

• EdJAM grants up to £25,000 application form

• EdJAM grants up to £25,000 Project budget form

• Due diligence letter and checklist

Please also include:

• 2-page CVs for all team members

• Letter of support from the host organisation

• The application form includes information about:

• Team members, including equalities info (option to leave blank)

• Aims and approach

• Workplan

• Project Management

• Ethics, safeguarding and duty of care

• NOTE: all projects will require ethical clearance either via host institution or University of Bristol

• Project outputs and contributions

• Budget justification

• Budgets should be in GBP. Use www.xe.com for currency conversions and state exchange rate used

• No more than 25% of the budget may be used to purchase equipment

• Host organisations can budget for up to 20% overheads – these must be included in the total requested budget

• Additional costs incurred by existing facilities (e.g. wifi and data bundles if necessary) are eligible, but new capital and infrastructure expenditure is not

• Consider costs for:

• Team members’ time

• Travel, including for participants’ attendance at events

• Producing and sharing creative outputs

• Open accessing publishing (if planning academic outputs)

• If the project has UK costs, please read guidance carefully

Review and decision making

All proposals will first be checked for eligibility

They will then be reviewed by 3 people from the EdJAM team and Advisory Board

Final decisions based on reviewer scores, with attention to geographic and thematic spread and equalities

Decisions communicated: Early December 2021

Assessment criteria:• Fit to EdJAM call• Creativity and originality• Project team• Approach and ethics• Management and feasibility• Impact and outcomes• Ethical budgeting

Digital mentoring scheme

• Hosted by EdJAM investigators

• Brings together Project Leads / PI of all funded projects

• Shaped based on development needs, so please think about and include these on the application form (project management section)

• Opportunity to learn from colleagues and share approaches
