Outreach Projects

AUBURN VOICES - Coordinator (2009-2013): Developed program that focused on training pre-service educators and counselors in leadership and advocacy. This included development and coordination of outreach projects between the College of Education student organizations and faculty and high need schools and community-based programs. Program also provided training sessions on leadership and advocacy to student leaders within the College of Education. Projects focused on literacy, increasing school resources, and college and career development. The program was supported through seed grants and matching funds (in-kind donations). From 2011-2011 the program received $45,000 in funds and matching funds to support projects.

AuburnVoices Highlights

Literacy Development Program : Provided literacy training and resources to parents and children atNotasulga and Carver Elementary Schools (2013-2014).

Career and College Exploration : Program focused on the integration of career and college preparation training to 9th-12th graders at Notasulga High School. Obtained funding to support three school counselors-in-training for one year to provide career and college development service In

addition, developed programs and training sessions at Auburn University for Seniors and Juniors on college preparation and exploration. (2010-2013).

Reading Support Programs : Through work with student organizations in the College of Education, including volunteers and donations, over 1,000 books and reading support materials were donated to Notasulga Schools, Carver Elementary, West Forest Elementary, Opelika and Auburn Girls and Boys Club This included the Great Read-In Project. (2009-2013).

The Big Event (Spring 2011): Worked with the Auburn University Big Event to coordinate sponsoring the Big Event at Notasulga Schools and community. As part of this process coordinated and organized College of Education teams who volunteered, assisted with training of team leaders for the Big Event, and helped identify donors for the projects COE volunteers participated in.

Auburn University, Poverty Awareness Week (2009) – Director of campus-wide week long program to provide training to college students, pre-service educators, counselors-in-training, and educational and counseling professionals on working with families and individuals impacted by poverty.

Fort Benning – Assessing Family Members Support and Emotional Response to Deployment (2007-present): Working in conjunction with Cynthia Vasilas and Fort Benning to assess family members’ of deployed personnel on issues related to support, emotional responses and perceived need

Chattahoochee HIV/AIDS Needs Assessment (2000-2001). Consulted on the development and implementation of a consumer needs assessment in the Chattahoochee County of West Georgia.

East Alabama Mental Health Center (Summer, 2000). Provided staff training on issues related to the supervisory process and relationship

Educational and Health Professions Partnership, Auburn University (1996-1998). Served as a program evaluator and provided educational training in this cross-discipline program which serves rural community-based programs and under-served population

East Alabama AIDS Outreach (1996-1997) Developed and administered a community and client needs assessment and program evaluation. Provided consultation on program revisions and implementation.
