OUR MISSION• Assure the right of education in a country of 50 million

students and 200,000 schools

ENROLLMENT OF STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS

ACCESSIBLE SCHOOLS

KEY CHALLENGES• Changing the conception of disability• Thinking more about the possibilities of people and less about their limitation

KEY CHALLENGES

• Deconstructing the model of segregation

KEY CHALLENGES• Creating favorable conditions for the organization of the

curriculum• The recognition that effective learning happens in a

partnership with educators, learners and their peers is increasing

HOW SHOULD SCHOOLS BE?

Inclusive

The surroundings should be accessible

Student’s evaluations should not be equal and it must respect diversity of learning

Resources and services need to be adaptable to the individual

WHAT IS THE WAY?

WHAT WE ARE DOING IN BRAZIL

• Public educational policies based on inclusive

education

• Government funding in inclusive education

• Detailed school census

• Financial support to promote and organize workshops

for teachers on all institutions which provides services

to children with disabilities

PUBLIC POLICY IN THE FIELD OF ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY

• The government of Brazil is buying and distributing Assistive

Technology (AT) resources for schools all over the country

• All cities in the country have at least one school with Assistive

Technology materials

• The city’s board of education is responsible for purchasing

other equipments that are needed

• Financial assistance to help schools become accessible to all

(90 centers spread over 54 universities) with

government funding

• Pedagogical use of Assistive Technology resources

• Teaching of Brazilian sign language

• Teaching Braille

• Teaching Portuguese as a second language
