A Dance Ensemble formed by Physical Education students and athletes which was responsible for bringing Dance as art to the Physical Education environment at the University of São Paulo. CREATIVE RESEARCH (The University of Iowa - Other Universities & Dance Companies) My primary area of research is choreography, the creation of concert dance works. Works with starred listings (*) indicate the restaging and performance of the noted work by various dance companies. Often times a work is completely refined in the process of restaging it for a new cast of dancers. In addition, from 1981 to 1988, a number of other choreographic works were created for ensembles, private and public dance schools in the US and abroad. Eight minutes abstract group piece Music by Philip Glass and Ravi Shankar. * When I Dream... (restaged for the Sandra Organ Dance Company) Originally created in 1997, this work were especially re-choreographed for the professional dance company SODC of Houston, TX, for the Celebration of Black History Month- Voices from the Past and Present. It will premiere in February at the Cullen Theater at the University of Houston. When I dream… will be part of the repertory of the company for the next two seasons. Twenty-two minutes abstract group work Music by Bobby McFerrin. * A Taste of An Orange (restaged for the Sandra Organ Dance Company) Originally created in 1994, this work were also especially re-choreographed for the professional dance company SODC of Houston, TX, for the Celebration of Black History Month- Voices from the Past and Present. It will premiere in February at the Cullen Theater at the University of Houston. A Taste of an Orange will be part of the repertory of the company for the next two seasons. It will premiere in February at the Clear Lake Bayou Theater. National Passion will be part of the repertory of the company for the next three seasons. Twelve minutes group work. Original Music by Paul Cunliffe. 2000 * Canções (Folk Songs) Originally created in 1998, this work were especially re-choreographed for the regional dance company Santa Cruz Ballet Theater of Santa Cruz, CA, for the Spring Festival. It premiered in February at the Cabrillo College Theatre. It was also performed at the Gala evening of the RDA Pacific Festival in Orem, UT. Music by Claude Debussy. 1997 When I Dream... (premiered - UI -DIC) This new work is a continuation on the choreographic exploration of subjects related to sleep and dreams. It was part of Dance Gala 97 and is currently part of Dancer In Company repertory for the Spring of 2001. Twenty-two minutes abstract group work Music by Bobby McFerrin and Peter Tchaikovsky. * Common Threads (UI/April; Ballet Municipal de Natal, Brazil/October) This work is a new version of 4 Canções de Bobby MacFerrin, choreographed in Brazil in 1996, and was part of the Thesis Concert for MFA Candidates Johanne Jakhelln and Roberta Carvalho's Thesis Concert at the Space Place Theater. For the Ballet Municipal de Natal, the piece premiered at the Teatro Alberto Maranhão in Natal, Brazil. This work was specially created for the University of Iowa Dance Company, with support from the University of Iowa Old Gold Summer Fellowship, as part of the Jungle Project about the Brazilian Rain Forest. This evening-length performance was presented at the Space/Place Theater in January of ‘97. Sixty minutes group work. Music by Naná Vasconcelos and Egberto Gismonti, environmental sounds of the Brazilian Rain Forest and Indians Chants from the Kaiapó tribe of Brazil. 1996 * Floresta - excerpts (UI) Twenty-five minutes group work. Music by Naná Vasconcelos and Egberto Gismonti, environmental sounds of the Brazilian Rain Forest and Indians Chants from the Kaiapó tribe of Brazil. This excerpt of “Floresta” premiered as part of Dance Gala ‘96. Lay of Errantry (premiere - UI) This work was part of the Thesis Concert for MFA Candidate Christy Guth at the Space Place Theater. Ten minutes dramatic solo work. Music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Peter Hans Kuhm and text by Aime Césaire. Quatro Canções de Bobby MacFerrin (premiere - UQD; UI in 1997) Seventeen minutes abstract quartet work Music by Bobby McFerrin. 1995 * Bum Bum Paticumbum Bugurundum (premiere - UI and DIC) This work was first choreographed for Dancers In Company and presented as “work in progress” during the Spring of ‘95. A second version of Bum Bum...was then re-choreographed for Gala ‘95. It was a shorter version (Twelve minutes) and used 24 students from the Dance Department. Bum Bum... was also part of the Dancers In Company repertory for 2 years Eighteen minutes presentational group work. Music by Mestre Nilton Marçal. Le Portaille (premiere - UI) Nine minutes abstract duet. Music by Robert Wilson and Peter Hans Kuhm. 1994 Dance for 9 Uais (premiere - UQD) Specially choreographed for the Uai Que Dança Dance Group, this work has received numerous awards in Brazil, included Best Choreography at the prestigious National Dance Meeting in São Paulo, The Triângulo Mineiro Dance Festival in Uberlândia, and the Dance Festival of Joinville, Santa Catarina. Twelve minutes abstract group work Music by Philip Glass and Ravi Shankar. Elle Premiered as part of Men In Labor, Faculty Concert - An Evening of Contemporary Dance Works at the Space Place Theater, this work was also performed as part of the Graduate Thesis Concert for MFA Candidate Molly Faulkner at the Space Place Theater.
