One Day Seminar on Water: The Elixir of Life

Department of Civil Engineering in association with Indian Water Works Association (IWWA),Ahmedabad and Institute of Engineers, Rajkot organized one day seminar on the topic Water –The Elixir of Life on 30 Mar., 2019. Invited experts were mainly from IWWA, Gujarat WaterSupply and Sewerage Board (GWSSB) and Institute of Engineers. Mr. N M Patel, Chief EngineerGWSSB shared his knowledge on drinking water scarcity & remedies. Mr. Deepak Ramchandani,Chief Engineer GWSSB, touched upon the topic of water management. Mr. Ratnadeep SWaghmare, Senior Engineer, Tata Consulting Engineers Ltd., discussed case study of project ondesign of water treatment plants carried out with GWSSB. Mr. S V Ahuja, Retd. Chief Engineer -GWSSB and President IWWA, shared his views on the theme of World Water Day- 2019. Theseminar also had presentations from students of the Department. Students also presentedworking models on irrigation methods.

One Week Workshop on Angular

Department of Computer Engineeringorganized one week workshop on Angularduring 18-23 Mar., 2019 for the studentsat the Department of BE Sem. 4. Theworkshop covered topics like angularproject setup and first app, angular projectstructure, basic routing, data binding,property and event binding, two-way databinding, etc. Workshop also included casestudies and practical sessions.

Final Year Project Fair - 2019

Every year project fair is organized by each department at the Institute with an objective to giveplatform to final year students to showcase creativity and hard work they have put in past oneyear in final year project work. Experts from industries and academics are invited to review theprojects. This interaction not only encourage and motivate students but also give themdirections for future work and for converting the concept to a marketable product. Further,interaction of junior students with their senior colleagues gives then exposure to different areasand help them to identify their own areas of interest.

Department of Mechanical Engineering organized project fair on 27 Mar., 2019. The same wasorganized by Department of Civil Engineering on 30 Mar., 2019. Students presented their projectwork through models, posters and presentations.

Project fair was also organized jointly by all Departments of Diploma Engineering on 29 Mar.,2019. The fair had around 52 projects exhibited. These included two projects which weresponsored under Student’s Star-up and Innovation Policy (SSIP).

Seminar on Journey Toward Entrepreneurship

Department of Computer Engineering organized one day seminar on Journey TowardEntrepreneurship for students of BE Sem. 4 at the Department on 9 Mar., 2019. Experts from ITcompanies and academic institutes were invited to share their successful stories of journey fromstart-up to an IT company, career after computer engineering as well as importance of domainknowledge. Prof. M. T. Savaliya, Professor, Vishwakarma Government Engineering College -Chandkheda, emphasized on importance of domain knowledge and how effectively it can beused to improve design efficiency. Ms. Pooja Vaidya, Project Manager, Elluminati Inc, Rajkotshared her journey of starting an IT company. Mr. Chintan Kotadiya, Founder & CEO, ProfessionalSoft-Tech, discussed various opportunities available as a software Engineer. Mr. Hemang Kothari,Founder & CEO, Kevit Technologies, discussed various opportunities in domain of Voicebots,Chatbots, Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing. Mr. Hardik Kotecha, Founder &CEO, Solomo360, Rajkot shared on opportunities available in Big Data domain.

One-Day Training Program on Arduino Platform

Department of Electronics and CommunicationEngineering conducted one day trainingprogram on Arduino Platform on 9 Mar., 2019for students of final year Diploma Engineeringfrom Department of Electrical Engineering. Allbasics regarding Arduino Programing andcontrols were shared with students. Theprogram also included practical examples andhands on practice.

A series of one day skill development programon CNC Turner & 3D Printer was organized byDepartment of Mechanical Engineering in themonth of February & March, 2019. 185+ finalyear diploma students of various engineeringinstitutes actively participated in this trainingprogram and got benefited. Few of theseinstitutes includes Govt. Polytechnic Rajkot,Govt. Training Program on Employability Skills

Training program on Employability Skills wasorganized in collaboration of CADD Centre Rajkot on18 Mar., 2019 for students of Department ofMechanical & Civil Engineering of DE Sem. 6. Expertsfrom CADD Center were Mr. Irshad Ahemad Shaikhand Mr. P K Venkatramana. Experts shared their viewson career guidance, resume preparation, importanceof soft skills, etc. They also informed about differentsoftware that are used in industries and how learningof such software can create opportunities for buildinga career in this direction. Mr. Keval Talsaniya, alumnusof the Institute, was also invited in the program. Heshared his views on current job trends in industry.

Tacheometry Survey at Chhatar, Tankara

Students of BE Sem. 4 from Departmentof Civil Engineering carried outTacheometry survey at site nearChhattar, Tankara. The work was carriedout as a part of their academic work.Students learned various aspects of fieldwork in tacheometry and also gainedexperience on preparing contour mapsfrom the survey data obtained.

Industrial Visit of Silver Pumps & Motors

Students of Department of Electrical Engineering DE Sem.4 and 6 visited Silver Pumps & Motors, Rajkot on 18 Mar.,2019. The company is one of the leading suppliers of selfpriming pumps, centrifugal pumps, openwell submersiblepumps, borewell submersible pumps and mud/sewagepumps. It has in-house manufacturing, sourcing andquality control facility equipped with world classinstruments, and other recourses. During the visitstudents got opportunity to study electromechanicalsystem used in pump and motor as well as theirmanufacturing process. They also studied testingprocedure and importance of IS. They also interactedwith company personnel to gain from their experience.

Field visit at Railway Station and Life Building, Rajkot.

Department of Civil Engineering organized afield visit for students of BE Sem. 6 atRailway Junction, Rajkot and Life NGOBuilding, Rajkot. The visit was organized on16 Mar., 2019. During the visit railwayofficers Mr. Gautam Bhupesh and Mr. ManojAgrawal shared valuable information andknowledge about various components inrailways like rails, recent trends in rails,ballast, railway signals, railway crossings,and controlling system of rail in controlroom. LIFE NGO Building is unique in a sensethat it has been awarded as MostOutstanding Concrete Structure of India byMaharashtra Chapter of American ConcreteInstitute. In this visit students were able tounderstand about different constructioncomponents of the building like slabs, beamsetc.

Seminar on Domain Selection

Department of Civil Engineering organized a seminar on Domain Selection on 18 Mar., 2019 forpre-final year students at the Department. The aim was to make students aware about varioussub branches in Civil Engineering and their scope of work. Further information was also sharedon various licenses or certification requirements for professional practices in these branches.The seminar was delivered by faculty members at the Department.

Industrial Visit at HI-BOND CEMENT PLANT

Students of BE Sem. 4 at Department of Civil Engineeringvisited Hi-Bond Cement Manufacturing Plant at Gomta,Rajkot in small groups between 11-13 Mar., 2019. Duringthis visit student were able to see actual process of cementmanufacturing starting from raw material storage tomanufacturing of cement and its packing by fully automaticplant. Student were also able to visit quality controllaboratory where they could learn about various qualitycontrol tests performed.

Industrial Visit at Captain Tractors Pvt. Ltd. & Creative Forge Pvt. Ltd.

Industrial Visit at Captain Tractors Pvt. Ltd. and CreativeForge Pvt. Ltd., Shapar Veraval, Rajkot was organized on26 Mar., 2019 by Department of Mechanical Engineeringfor students of DE Sem. 4. At Captain Tractors studentswere able to study different parts used in a tractor andmanufacturing processes involved. At Creative Forgestudents could study different forging operations andtools used in this process.

Webinar at Music Club

Music club at the Institute organized a webinar as partof the training program for music enthusiast at the club.The webinar was organized on 28 Mar., 2019. It wasconducted by Mr. Chetan Fefar, alumni of the Instituteand a recognized singer in music industry, Mumbai. Hehas done number of shows and has good experience inplayback singing. The objective of the webinar was toguide students on how to nurture their interest andtalent in music as well as to update them with currentscenario in music industry .

Faculty Development Program on Unity - Game Development

Department of Computer Engineering organized three days Faculty Development Program onUnity - Game Development during 28 Feb. - 2 Mar., 2019. Jinendra Mehta, student of BE Sem. 6conducted the sessions and explained various concepts of Unity to faculty members. During thesession, he covered introduction of unity, editor interface, essential classes, parent-childrelationship, execution order of event functions co-routines, ui canvas, and many other basic andadvance features.

Annual Sports Festival - SPRINT – 2019

Sprint -2019, the annual sports festival at the Institute was organized on 28 Feb. & 1 Mar., 2019.The festival included sports events like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Kabaddi, Table Tennis,Badminton, Chess and Carrom. As always, the event received an overwhelming response with1000+ entries. Elimination rounds in various games started almost two week earlier as per therequirements which helped to slowly build up the right atmosphere for the final on 1st March.Students participated in a big mass with great enthusiasm and sportsman spirit.

Participation in Events Outside Institute

Chaitanya Bhatia (BE Sem. 2, CE) represented the Institute in Elocution competition organizedby Institution of Engineers – Saurashtra Chapter. The theme of the competition wasTechnological Development for Upliftment of Society and was organized on 20 Feb., 2019. Theevent has around 20+ participants from different Degree and Diploma institutes in the region.Chaitanya secured second position in the competition.

Aghera Jemin (BE Sem. 2, EE), Viradiaya Shivam (BE Sem. 2, CE), Savaliya Harsh (BE Sem. 2, CE)and Trivedi Shubham (BE Sem. 2, CE) participated in various events in State level symposiumBhauddhika organized at Shanti Business School, Ahmedabad during 8-9 Feb., 2019. Theyperformed well in the events and received awards for the same.

NCC Pre-Commission Training Phase-II

Prof. Kartikraj Dhamsaniya, Department of Humanities & Science, is Associate Officer (ANO) ofNCC unit at the Institute. As a part of this responsibilities he is required to undertake pre-commission training. He attended and successfully completed Phase-III of his training –Waterman ship held at 2nd Naval Unit, Baroda during 11 - 31 March, 2019. This trainingincluded Boat Sailing, Boat Pulling, Kayak raiding, basics of Knots and study on special subjectsof Navy.
