Educational Option Physical Education (DCH Sc112) Interscholastic Sport R1/10 St udents can rece ive ¼ credit towa rd gradua ti on fo r thei r pa rt icipat io n in an inter scholastic sport at Dayton Christian High School. Stude nts can receive the requir ed ½ credit of phy sical education toward gra duation for the ir parti cipa tion in two seasons of inter scholastic sports. Athle tes are encourag ed to parti cipate in this program if they have not already fulfilled their two semes ters (½ credit ) of physical educa tion. This wil l require the athle te to particip ate in a total of 120 hours of documen ted team activ ity. Credi ts earne d from additional participation in this form of alternative study will be considered an academic elective . This physical education option has two aspects: (1)  Sixty (60) hours of logged time : This includes all practice time with the team, scrimmages, and all games. This does NOT include travel time.  Example: Monday, March 12 3:00-5:00 pm Practice Saturday, March 17 9:00-11:00 am Game (2)  Spe cifi c crit eria :  Identification of three specific skills to be developed during the course of the season. These are to be decided upon by the coach and the athlete. The athlete’s log (#1) should reflect time spent on these skills. Identification of three character qualities that will serve as a focus for the season. Coach and athlete will decide these qualities. During the last week of competition a one page paper of evaluation from the athlete describing the growth experienced during the season should be written.  Six verses (two verses for each character quality) that the athlete found meaningful should be cited in this  paper . Also required in the paper is a statement regarding their fulfillment of the agreed upon athletic skill development. This paper must be signed by the student, one  parent, and the coach in order to receive credit.  The credit paper must be  submitted to the Office of the Principal within two weeks of the end of the season (or two weeks from the end of the post season tournament). Failure to submit the paper on time will forfeit the athlete’s opportunity to receive this Alternative Physical Education Credit.  Suggested character qualities on the back  R6/14/01 Dayton Christian Schools, Inc. Students can receive ¼ credit toward graduation for their participation in aninterscholastic sport at Dayton Christian High School. Students can receive the required ½credit of physical education toward graduation for their participation in two seasons of interscholastic sports. Athletes are encouraged to participate in this program if they have notalready fulfilled their two semesters (½ credit) of physical education.
