Located on the same property as the bed & breakfast is a textile printing and clothing production facility that will afford groups the opportunity to get an in-depth
view of production processes.
Bougainvillea Tours coordinates a
variety of tours and lessons with
hands-on experience at this
facility.
The Winter Sun factory specializes in hand-dyed and
batik textile printing and garment
construction.
The factory process begins with coordinating the patterns, colors, fabrics and prints for production. Once the print
design is selected a set of stamping blocks are made.
PRINT BLOCK CARVING
At the same time the dye formulas are tested for color accuracy.
COLOR PERFECTION
When the blocks are ready they are dipped in wax and stamped on greige or dyed fabric.
WAXING
More intricate designs require stamping a painted fabric.
HAND-PAINTING FABRIC
Stamping a painted fabric and then over-dyeing produces patterns with color variations within each motif.
DOUBLE-WAXING
The fabric is dried between waxing and painting
While the fabrics are being printed the patterns are being perfected and copied.
PATTERN-MAKING
A few ply of yardage for sample garments are cut by hand, however, for production, large
rotary blades are used on thick stacks of fabric.
CUTTING
Cut bundles are brought to the sewing wing for construction.
SEWING
Stitched garments receive trims and
notions.
Constructed garments are inspected and
sent to be dyed more, if
necessary.
Garments are dyed and rinsed in temperature sensitive baths.
GARMENT DYEING
All garments receive a final pressing and quality check.
