Please continue prayers for Fr. Minh Phan and his family. Fr. Minh’s father, Ignatius Dan Phan, passed away recently and Fr. Minh is in Vietnam with his family during this difficult time. Fr. Minh has been in contact with us and sent this photo, sharing with us the Vietnamese traditions during times of loss. “This picture portrays what happens after three days of burial. According do the Vietnamese Catholic tradition, commemorating the third day of our Lord’s Resurrection, we return to the tomb to pray and to renew our faith in the resurrection of our Lord and all of us together. Father Minh.”
Catholic Communications Campaign
The 2nd Collection for the Catholic Communications Campaign is scheduled for the weekend of Sept. 17th. This collection supports the evangelizing work of the church throughout the world by supporting media: newspapers, television, radio and digital or online media. Fifty percent of the funds collected in the Archdiocese of New Orleans remain here to support Catholic new media efforts and the Clarion Herald. To learn more about the national program visit www.usccb.org/ccc and locally visit h p://nolacatholic.org.
It is fitting to begin with another offering of thanks to God for having been spared from Hurricane Irma, as we were from Hurricane Harvey.
Coupled with spiritual offering of gratitude, is Catholic Action to make our part of the world a better place.
Included in this bulletin are photographs of our seminarians from Notre Dame on Carrollton Avenue, working in Texas following Harvey. Their efforts were united with many lay volunteers from Metairie, and with seminarians from St. Mary’s in Houston. This was an opportunity for us to “pay it forward”, as St. Mary’s was one of the schools that offered shelter to our seminarians twelve years ago after Katrina.
More recently, Hurricane Irma has devastated our neighbors to the east in Florida. I do not have photographs to share, yet, but NDS is currently sheltering refugee seminarians from St. Vincent’s Seminary in Boynton Beach.
Locally, you of St. Louis King of France, collected ONE THOUSAND POUNDS OF FOOD for Second Harvesters to send to those in Texas who lost their homes and livelihood.
Also included in this bulletin is a letter from Archbishop Aymond, expressing gratitude for your generosity toward Texas, and calling for the same to help Florida as they recover from Hurricane Irma.
To conclude, we pray for the repose of the souls of all who lost their lives, we pray for their grieving loved ones, we pray for all those engaged in picking up the pieces, and we pray that the world may be spared from additional hurricanes this season.
St. Louis King of France, Pray for us. Our Lady of Prompt Succor, Hasten to Help us.
