Dates for the Calendar
Dear Parents and Friends,
Thankyou P & C Congratulations to our Edward Public School P & C on the success of their games night! Over $3000.00 was raised. A
wonderful night of entertainment for the whole Deniliquin Community was organised by the very dedicated and
hardworking crew of the Games Night Committee: Anthony
Bradley, Deanne Bradley Linda Harvey, Lana Scoullar, Tracy Ho, Karma Duffey, Christina Mildren, Nat Shaw, Scott
Mildren and Wayne Bradley. Challenges, trivia, fun and games were key agenda items on the night, with the true
artistic and creative talents of the audience shining though in the team portrait drawing of a famous Deniliquin
personality. A giant game of Jenga kept us all on edge and
some very creative dance moves were skilfully enjoyed. A night of laughter and more laughter was had by all. A very
sincere thank you is extended to the members of the P & C, the Games Night Committee, volunteers and staff who all
had a hand in bringing this great event to the Deniliquin
Community. In particular, special thanks to our Edward Public School Community Members who helped in the
morning and during the day, with the ride a thon, and then went on to organise the Games Night, on the very same day.
Your commitment and enthusiasm in supporting our great
school is sincerely appreciated. Can’t wait for the next one!
Good Luck Good luck to our Athletics Team going along to the District
Cross Country Carnival tomorrow, Wednesday to represent
our school. We wish you speedy feet, strong arms and enjoyment in your events. Have a great day!
Congratulations Georgina Steph Maher and Georgina Mildren, who went along to
Wagga on Monday, enjoyed a day of success on the netball
court. Congratulations to Georgina Mildren who gained selection as a goal shooter into the Riverina Netball Team,
and will go on to play against other regional teams in the State Competition in Penrith in Term 3. We wish her all the
best in her netball aspirations.
Positive Behaviour For Learning It is great to see students making the effort to keep our
playground a very happy and safe place to enjoy playtime. LATCH THE GATE is the next very important thing we want
everyone in our school community to do. New yellow signs
have been put on our gates to remind us to LATCH THE GATE every time we walk through it. This will help to keep
our younger students safe and help to remind them to be in the right place.
More Sport News Our girls are off to the netball Gala Day on Friday with Miss
Gallagher, while both soccer teams will be going along to play in the soccer knockout with Miss Omeara. I hope
everyone has been adding their points to their Premier’s
Sport Challenge sheets.

Cross Country Congratulations to our place getters in the School Cross Country Event last Wednesday. The recipients of the
beautiful medallions donated by the P & C were very pleased with their efforts. All students put their best foot
forward in this school event to participate at their own pace,
and cross the finish line. Well done to all of you. We look forward to hearing of some great results from this week’s
District Cross Country Carnival. Thankyou to Mrs Young and Mr Bradley for their great work in organising our day, and
again for the support they will be giving in organising the
District and Regional event as well. It was great to see our families’ support at the cross country, and the cheers and
encouragement from everyone – a very positive and friendly spirit.
Too Many Elephants Last week, Edward School participated in a ’National Stimulus Story Time’! All students read ’Too Many Elephants in the House’ and completed some fun activities based on the book. As Edward School students were reading the book so were many children from around Australia. Great fun was had by all. Thank you to Mrs Druitt, who organised this celebration of
Reading in Edward Public School.
Reconciliation Week A special morning tea was enjoyed by members of our Aboriginal Community on Monday. After being welcomed by
Matthew Daniels, members of the Regional Support Team
addressed a gathering of parents, students and staff. Ruah Figiri did a fine job in presenting her exposition on anti
bullying, featuring racism. “Walk The Talk” is the theme for this year’s Reconciliation Week Campaign and walking
together in common cause to achieve quality learning and
engagement for all of our students is the key.
AECG meeting The next Aboriginal Education Consultative Group meeting
will be held on Monday 2nd June 2014 at 4:30pm. The venue
will be the Deniliquin High School Common Room. This is situated upstairs above the canteen. All welcome. For a
copy of the agenda and enquiries, please contact Matthew Daniels, President 03 5898 3700 .
Welcome Past students from Edward Public School have joined us
this week in experiencing what it will be like to be a
primary school teacher. We are very pleased to welcome Karla Everitt, Jesse Jennings and Molly Watson back to
Edward. With the expertise and very supportive encouragement of our dedicated teachers, here at Edward,
their visit is sure to be an invaluable learning experience. We look forward to having them return to us as teachers in
the near future.
Fundraisers The Edward Public School Community is thanked enormously for the support given to our fundraisers for the
Gough Family. Last week close to $200.00 was raised with our casual day and today’s cake stall funds will be added to
this. Important virtues of thoughtfulness and giving are
admirably experienced with such important community support.
Farewell As we extend a very hearty welcome to Corrinne Elul to the
role of Canteen Manager this week and wish her all the best on this new venture, it is with fond sadness that we
say a regretful farewell to Sacha Jefferies. Sasha has been
providing us with a very healthy range of delicious items in the canteen since taking up the position last year. We will
miss her very enthusiastic approach and especially her gentle reminders to our children about the positive
expected behaviours at the canteen. We now look forward
to seeing even more of Sasha in and around our school as a very dedicated, energetic parent and vibrant community
member. All the best, Sasha, and a huge thankyou!

Creative Catchment Heroes Last Friday, three environment champions visited a farm in Wakool. Fahir, Hayden and Shannon from Stage 3 interviewed Mr John Lolicato, a local rice farmer. The boys interviewed Mr Lolicato and are currently writing a book about his life. The book will be published later this year through the Murray Darling Basin Commission.
Buy A Butterfly Over the next few weeks we will be selling beautiful butterfly badges at school in support of the deaf and hearing impaired. At any given time 1 in 3 primary students will have hearing loss no-one knows about. This hearing loss may prevent them from hearing you or their teacher properly and therefore reduce their opportunities to learn. If you would like to purchase one of these badges for $2, Maisy Edwards and some Year 6 helpers will be selling them at school. All money raised will be sent to the Deafness Foundation to fund research, prevention, early detection and technology. Maisy would love your support!
Sponsor Sheets Thank you to all of the mums and dads and family members for the quick return of the ride- walk- a- thon sponsor sheets! A friendly reminder to bring them in as soon as possible.
Anti Bullying Included in today’s newsletter is the Edward Public School Anti Bullying Plan. In Term Two students are
learning about anti bullying strategies. Last week we enjoyed a visit from Lorin Nicholson who spoke to our
students about the topic and ways to beat bullying.
With guitar in hand and a strong message for all, Lorin’s performance will be thought of for a long, long
time. Many thanks to you, Lorin.
As always, these are very busy times for our school.
Edward Public School prides itself on the great educational opportunities provided for all of our
students in a positive and inclusive environment. Congratulations and appreciation to all of our Edward
Public School Staff and Community Members for all of
the dedicated work that goes on behind the scenes to make these opportunities happen for our students.
Best wishes
Joy Soper Principal

Athletics Carnival to be held on Friday 6th June at the Rams Oval has taken a note home. Notes and $2.00
for the bus need to be returned to the school office by
Wednesday 4th June. Athletes will also need to bring $2.00 on the day for the Deniliquin District Levee.
Voluntary School Contribution Thank you, parent/carers who have already paid their
school fees this year. The school relies on this voluntary contribution to purchase classroom supplies
including work books, stationary, tissues and other essential learning materials. $35.00 for the first
student or $50.00 per family of more than one student.

celebrate excellent classroom engagement for students nominated by their teachers will be on Monday 16th

Cross Country Canteen- Edward P&C are catering for the District Cross Country tomorrow at Memorial Park. If you can help for
an hour between 9-1, please contact Felicity 0488054356. This is the only catering we are responsible for at this time.
P&C AGM- the Annual General Meeting for the Edward P&C will be held on Tuesday 17.6.14. Come along and hear reports about
the projects that the P&C has done this year and those we are working towards as well as the financial status of the P&C. A light
supper will be served. All positions will be declared vacant- but no one will get a job unless they want one!! We are in particular
need of a new uniform coordinator to work with our very long serving and hard working uniform coordinator Kim O’Neill. If you
would like more information about any of the positions, please contact Felicity for a job description. Just a reminder that to vote
you need to pay a token $1 membership to the P&C association.
Discipline Policy Review- the first meeting of the Discipline Review working party, which is made up of representatives of the
community, the staff, the school executive and the P&C, was held last week. Vicki Hutton, from District Office is facilitating the
process. Felicity Michael is the P&C rep and I will be getting lots of feedback from the P&C every step of the way. The aim of the
process is to develop the Discipline policy so that it is clear, easy to read and follow for everyone in the Edward Community. We
are all very keen to get it up and going as soon as possible. To that end we hope to have a part of the new policy for people to look
at next P&C meeting. We look forward to getting as much feedback as possible.
