1) Purpose
The aim of this experiment is to study digitally modulated signals PAM,
PSK and QAM by using Simulink.
2) Lab Work
In this part we designed M-ary PAM, M-ary PSK(BPSK, QPSK, M-
PSK), and M-ary QAM models in Simulink. We used some of
communication sources in the communication blocksets such as
modulator, demodulator, AWGN channel; and we changed their
parameters to observe different results.
We also added the error rate calculation blockset and we displayed its
results which were error in percent, number of error bits, and numbers of
send bits.
3) Results
a) Part I: M-ary PAM
M-ary PAM for M-ary number=2
M-ary PAM for M-ary number=4
M-ary PAM for M-ary number=8
M-ary PAM for M-ary number=16
M-ary PAM for M-ary number=32
M-ary PAM for M-ary number=64
b) PART II: M-ary PSK
M-ary PSK- [BPSK] for M-ary number=2
M-ary PSK- [QPSK] for M-ary number=4
M-ary PSK- [MPSK] for M-ary number=2
c) PART III: M-ary QAM
M-ary PSK- [MPSK] for M-ary number=2
M-ary PSK- [MPSK] for M-ary number=4
M-ary PSK- [MPSK] for M-ary number=8
M-ary PSK- [MPSK] for M-ary number=16
M-ary PSK- [MPSK] for M-ary number=32
M-ary PSK- [MPSK] for M-ary number=64
4) Conclusion
In this experiment, we investigated the basic principles of digitally
modulated signals PAM, PSK and QAM using simulink. Firstly, we designed
an M-ary PAM model that includes a Random Integer Generator, M-PAM
Modulator and Demodulator, AWGN channel, Error Calculator etc. We
simulated this PAM model and noted the results by changing the value of M-
ary number 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64 for each blockset. Secondly, we designed
M-ary PSK models and simulated for BPSK(M=2), QPSK(M=4) and M-
PSK(M=4, 8, 16, 32, 64). Thirdly, we designed M-ary QAM model and
observed the results for (M=4, 8, 16, 32, 64). We observed the results that
when the M-ary number increased, the error bits were also increased except
QAM. To sum up, in this laboratory, three digitally modulation method
PAM, PSK and QAM were studied by using simulink.
