UNITED KINGDOM Challenging market condi-tions, recycling capacity, changing scope of regula-tions, funding for local au-thorities and, of course, the potential impact of Brexit have all put challen-ges on the WEEE and Ewa-steR pilot programme in the UK. To date UCLAN has recruited eight staff from Furniture Matters. The co-hort is drawn from Lanca-ster and Morecombe de-pots and workshops in Blackpool, Lancashire. The training and assessments covering TUs 1, 2 and 3 has gone well and has been positively received by the learners. For the Open Ma-nagement School, learners

representatives mainly: CECED
Poland - the European Commit-
tee of Manufacturers of Dome-
stic Equipment, Cluster of Wa-
ste and Recycling Economy and
its member: P.P.H.U. POLBLU-
ME Zbigniew Miazga as well as
university professor. From 23
learners who started the pilot
course 21 learners have comple-
ted it. Learners represented
WEEE sector, but also other
sectors employees and entre-
preneurs who were looking for
the new job or new develo-
ment directions opportunities
(two of them were in the noti-
ce period). The trainers used
different methods to assess the
learners: direct observation,
open discussion, interview,
project work (business model
canvas development and de-
scription), testimonials feed-
back from em-
ployers/supervisors and work
samples .

CYPRUS The Cyprus pilot training course started on February 9 and fini-shed on March 31, 2017. It was a very interesting and challenging two months period for coordina-tion especially for all the partici-pants, the trainees as well as the trainers. The recycling sector in Cyprus is extremely small with only a few operating companies and with limited employment
opportunities in the whole sector. However, when we started examining the sector more closely we ended up with more organizations invol-ved in WEEE, therefore our task was finally easier that what we were expecting at the beginning. For this we should thank WEEE Electrocy-closis Cyprus Ltd, which was
really helpful and extremely important for the successful completion of the Cyprus pi-lot program. WEEE Elec-trocyclosis Cyprus Ltd is the organisation that was created in accordance with the provi-sions of the European Regula-tion 668/2004 of the Solid and Hazardous Waste Law. This law defines the responsibili-

ties and obligations of the producers of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE), which in Cyprus are mostly companies importing Elec-trical and Electronic Equip-ment. We have worked with a group of learners that stayed with us from the beginning to the end of the pilot activities. The majority of our trainees were people already possessing a univer-sity degree and somehow interested or already rela-ted to the recycle sector. Our activities have been de-veloped in accordance with the training plan.
Classroom lessons took pla-ce at the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry pre-mises. It was the first part of the pilot program where legislation and procedures where clearly presented to the participants. We had trainers from governmental
departments, private organi-sations, WEEE Electrocyclosis Cyprus Ltd and others.
Open Management school took place at Intercollege. Trainees had the opportunity
to be taught by two lectu-rers from the University of

Nicosia. One of the lecturers was a waste and environ-ment expert and the other one was a business manage-ment lecturer. By combi-ning these two lecturers we managed to cover all trai-ning requirements at the highest level. Both lecturers were very important for the completion of the pilot pro-gram and had excellent kno-wledge of their task as well as the goals and objectives of the training.
Lab shadowing was the most interesting part of the pilot programme. It was the part where trainees had the opportunity to see what is been done actually in the market of waste of electrical and electronic equipment. Trainees had the chance to see how legislation and wa-ste techniques and procedu-res are into place in organi-sations and to relate classroom lessons with prac-tical experience. Trainees visited recycling companies, reuse companies, and WEEE Electrocyclosis Cyprus Ltd. Our trainees had the oppor-
tunity to observe and be involved in day to day ope-rations in all of the organi-sations that participated in this part of the project.
It is now clear that the most interesting part of the pilot project was the lab shadowing activities. It is also obvious that the combination of classroom training and lab shado-wing activities is the best way to correctly educate people at this level. This way education can be mo-re interesting, can motiva-te teamwork, it develops a better understanding and above all it provides all necessary skills for em-ployment.
