Effect of Domestic Violence

Domestic violence is a relationship between intimate partners in which one individual

seeks to assert power and control over the other. According to a national survey conducted by

Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO), about 40% of women over the age of 15 have been

beaten by their partners which is consistent with global numbers. In Malaysia, out of the 93

survivors who sought shelter at Women’s Aid Organisation, more than 95% were abused

physically and psychologically, 52% financially, 49% socially and 35% sexually. Indeed,

domestic violence have many serius effect on human being like physical injury, post-

traumatic stress disorders and change one’s worldview and outlook on life.

Firstly, the most obvious effect of domestic violence is caused physical injury. Given

the nature of the crime, it is extremely common to preserve briuses on the arms from being

gripped, broken bones or other physical injuries on the victim’s body from abusivee incidents.

People who experiencing domestic violence often cover up their injuries to avoid being seen

or questioned by the publics. Oftentimes injuries are explained by stating one tripped and fell,

or due to the feelings of shame or maybe because speaking openly about the injuries can place

the person at a greater risk of being abused. So, domestic violence do have a serius effect that

cause physical injury among the victim because the victim usually keep their physical injuries

hidden or as secret with receive any treatment because they afraid that the abbuser will abuse

them because let the publics know about the abbusive incident.

Besides, the next effect of domestic violence is post-traumatic stress disorders

(PTSD). PTSD is a mental health condition that is triggered by a terrifying event. Some of the

usual symptoms associated with PTSD are like flashbacks, nightmares, severe anxiety and

uncontrollable thoughts about the event that the victim suffered. In the other hand, for victims

disorder that can be challenging to diagnose and conquer. As an example, a chronic effects of

PTSD caused by abuse is lead to the most common symptom of domestic violence like

depression and also dissociation. As a result, domestic violence have a negative effect like

PTSD that those victim who go through traumatic events will have difficulty adjusting and

coping for a while and need time and support to get better.

In addition, the another effect of domestic violence is it can change one’s worldview

and outlook on life. Hopelessness, damaged or unworthy life was some of the negative

outlook feel by those domestic violence’s victim that being in a situation where they are being

controlled by another. A perpetrator can chip sense of self in relation to the world and a faulty

belief system can led to feeling discouraged and apprehensive about the future. Domestic

violence said to be can change one’s worldview and outlook on life because it can also take

away a person’s sense of safety and security, influencing the victim’s to trust others.

Therefore, this will negatively effect one’s life because they may feel that no one is

trustworthy even some of the people are really want to help them from the abuser to provide

them a better future.

In a nutshell, domestic violence do have a serius effect in one’s life. The effects of

domestic violence on our society are obviously enormous, but are impossible to measure. Our

entire nation suffers and we can the cumulative effect of the of domestic is visible to the

sensitive eye especially at home and in the office, in markets and restaurants, in schools and

also corporates. Although domestic violence can never be eliminated from society unless

society refuses to tolerate it, in my opinion, I think that every human being deserve a good life

must appreciate each other in term of humanity and not to abuse each other for self-

satisfaction or for any reason.
