Looking at all the damage to tyres caused by off-road racing, Mickey Thompson designed a tread that would go all the way down the widest part of the tyre, so no matter what you hit, it wasn’t going to tear the tyre. Mickey also wanted a tyre that would dig him out of a rut fast – the very first SideBiters were born and did both jobs.

PowerPly technology gives you greater resistance to sidewall damage when playing rough off-road.
The high Silica compound really improves cut and chip resistance when tackling harsh terrain.
Tyre grip and rolling resistance comes from the way a tyre distorts and rebounds around the unevenness of the road surface.
An ideal tyre will conform to uneven road surfaces, rather than ‘bouncing off’. Where the tyre conforms to the road it delivers better grip and causes less cutting and chipping.

Mickey Thompson Tires, the leaders in 4x4 tyre innovation have designed a tyre that not only responds faster but is more resistant to damage from those more demanding off-road tracks, it’s called PowerPly technology.
Tyres with a traditional radial construction have two plies running in the same direction. Using the Light Truck, Super Tensile Steel Belt and High Tensile Cord package, PowerPly is the addition of a third cord ply at an 8o angle, strengthening the carcass of the tyre and lessening the twist in the tyre. Less twist = faster steering response.
IMPROVES CORNERING AND STEERING RESPONSE POWER TO THE GROUND FASTER – With the addition of the third angled ply, the tyre twists and flexes far less during breaking, cornering and acceleration. This delivers more power to the ground for greater traction and a faster steering response. This is a huge benefit when having to manoeuvre an emergency lane change or driving at lower pressures on gravel or loose surface conditions.
IMPROVES TEAR AND DAMAGE RESISTANCEREDUCING GAPS BETWEEN CORDS – The gaps between the cords are the weakest point in a tyre. With the addition of the third angled ply, the gaps are closed, improving the impact strength of the tyre and making it more tear resistant.
SO HOW DO POWERPLY TYRES RESPOND FASTER?The ATZP3 was recently put to the test against other leading American made brands to evaluate how PowerPly technology performed against the more traditional radial ply carcass construction. It is clear from these images below that the vehicles fitted with brands G and B get out of control, while the vehicle fitted with Mickey Thompson ATZP3 is in much better control during this lane change manoeuvre.

Tyres with a traditional 2 ply radial construction can produce higher levels of torque twist and flex when braking, cornering and accelerating. Energy is lost out the back or side of the tyre.

Stronger, tougher, better. The ATZP3 is a step-up in all-terrain performance. It combines unique design elements, technology and engineering. This tyre crosses between being an all-terrain and a mud-terrain tyre.
