Effectiveness of Contour Augmentation with Guided Bone Regeneration: 10-Year ResultsV. Chappuis, L. Rahman, R. Buser, S.F.M. Janner, U.C. Belser, D. Buser, 2017
AIMS
SURGICAL APPROACH
CLINICAL AND AESTHETIC PARAMETERS: STABLE OVER 10 YEARS
SUCCESS RATE OF 95% AFTER 10 YEARS
Assess the effectiveness of early implant placement with
simultaneous contour augmentation
Single-tooth, aesthetic zone
Flapless extraction, 8 weeks of tissue healing, placement of a bone level implant.
GBR with 2-layer composite graft (autogenous bone, Geistlich Bio-Oss®) and Geistlich Bio-Gide®.
Improvement: probing depth, significant decrease from 4.5 mm to 4 mm
Facial bone wall thickness 0 mm at surgery to 1.67 mm at 10 years.
High PES and WES aesthetic scores.
The CBCT analysis of the facial bone wall demonstrated that 19 of 20 implants (95%) had a detectable facial bone wall.NB. One implant ‘regenerative failure’: The patient had a history of smoking and was taking bisphosphonates due to osteoporosis. At the 10-year examination, the implant was clinically healthy without signs of infection but revealed no detectable facial bone.
Integrity and long-term stability of the facial bone wall
10.5 YEAR follow-up
20 PATIENTS
Stable for over
10 YEARS
Peri-implant suppuration
Modified plaque index
Modified sulcus bleeding index
Width of the keratinised mucosa
Facial bone wall 0 mm at surgery –
1.67 mm at 10 years
