Friends,

Try Lowlines - See Rapid Growth!

What? Lowlines equal rapid growth? That’s right. First of all, Lowlines are the most rapidly growing breed registry in the United States...more members, more registrations and even more importantly, more transfers which is the best indication of more sales being made by more breeders! More sales across the country are producing more opportunity for breeders to market their seedstock.

But why, you ask? Because cattlemen across the country are starting to see the growth in their bottom line when they moderate their cow size and take the labor out of calving. They are also seeing tremendous fi nancial benefi t from a “no stress” birthing process yielding higher breed back rates and eliminating huge expenses from treating scours and calf pneumonia. By moderating their cow size and doing a better job of rotational grazing, they are able to run more cows per acre and improve their total pounds of weaning weight for a higher price per pound! Now that’s real growth.

But why should I use a smaller bull on my cows and expect to grow my profi t you ask. You shouldn’t. You should use a Lowline bull on your fi rst calf heifers to eliminate calv-ing diffi culty and then keep those fi rst cross Lowline heifers as replacements. Over time, about 5 - 6 years using a 15 - 20% replacement rate, you can replace each big, old high maintenance cow culled with 1.5 to 2 Lowline cross heifers and thereby mod-erate your cow size while simultaneously increasing your cow numbers. If you couple that strategy with moving your calving dates a little later, you will be astounded by the labor reductions, lower feed supplementation and improvement in your bottom line.

We welcome you to our 6th Discover Lowlines Weekend. We hope you fi nd it edu-cational and enjoyable. We sure do enjoy having you here. We hope you see some cattle you like. Please let us know if we can help you in any way.

Thank you for your interest.

6th Annual Discover Lowlines Schedule of Events6th Annual Discover Lowlines Schedule of EventsFRIDAY, JUNE 13:00 P.M. BREEDERS’ SEMINAROver the last year we have attended seminars and met with leaders in the grass-fed beef industry. Many of these experts have touted the effi ciency and fl eshing ability of frame score 4 cattle which are exactly what halfblood to three-quarter-blood Lowline genetics produce. We have heard over and over that some of the best females to use in a grass-fed operation are halfblood Lowline cows. Consumer demand for all-natural, source-verifi ed, grass-fed beef is soaring. Our Discover Lowlines Weekend Breeder Seminar will feature experts in several phases of grass fed beef production:

John Dhuyvetter, NDSU Extension Beef Cattle Specialist will discuss cost effective conversion from big, high maintenance cost cows using Lowline genetics.

Charlie Waldroff, Big Dog Fodder Systems, will share his experience in growing and using fodder to grass fi nish Lowline cattle.

“The Effertz Girls” know that one of the best things about raising Lowlines is eating Lowline beef. Join Kate, Sarah and Abbey for cooking demonstrations and tasting grass-fed Lowline beef. They will also have recipes and will discuss marketing tips for selling your grass-fed Lowline locker beef.

What are they good for?1. Calving ease on fi rst calf heifers.Halfblood calves average weights of 60-70 pounds at birth will vary depending on the genetics of the heifers. They will be in the frame score 4 to 5.5 range, again depending on the frame score of the heifers. These vigorous, healthy calves will weigh right at or just slightly below the average of your regular calves especially if you start calving your heifers a few weeks earlier than your main cow herd as is common practice. The extra calves you wean (no death loss at birth) will more than make up for any loss in indi-vidual weaning weight. These fi rst-cross calves will sell right with your regular calves at no discount.

2. Halfblood and fi rst-cross Lowline steers will fi nish at 1,150 to 1,275 lbs. if backgrounded on a high-roughage diet. They will work extremely well to run as yearlings on grass and then these yearlings will gain very well and very effi ciently in the feedlot. They will fi nish in a much shorter feeding period saving high corn costs and yardage. Because of their heavy-muscled An-gus heritage they will yield excellent carcasses with high ribeye-area-per-hundredweight and a high quality grade. The Lowline-cross beef is noticeably fi ne textured and very tender.

3. Use Lowline cross cows to moderate your cow size. Run more cows per acre and wean more pounds per acre. Sell that total pounds of weaning weight for a higher price per pound. This is especially true from the second year of production and beyond when you can breed the Lowline cross females to a larger framed but easy-calving bull of another breed to make a smaller cow be all she can be. Thus, she weans a higher percent of her body weight and optimizes her lower annual maintenance costs.

4. Sell Lowline seed stock. There are an increasing number of Lowline sales across the coun-try to allow you a place to market your registered Lowlines. There is also a great demand for Lowline-cross replacement heifers. They make excellent recipients for some embryo transplant programs.

5. Lowline-cross steers are ideal for the emerging “Grass-Fed Beef” market. We fi nd that half to 3/4-blood steers are very well suited for this purpose.

6. High-percentage Lowlines are optimum for selling locker beef. Their smaller carcass size is much more well suited to the modern American family. Their smaller yet fi ne-textured cuts of fl avorful beef will gain you rave reviews from your customers and some great “word of mouth” advertising. We are even breeding some of our higher percentage Lowline cows to lower percentage bulls which gives us terrifi c weaning weights as a percent of the cow’s body weight.

 L O W L I N EEZ Ranch Breeding Privileges

Each female lot in the sale sells with breeding privileges to our Effertz EZ Ranch herd bull battery. Effertz EZ Ranch will provide two straws of semen and one AI certifi cate for one calf out of the cow purchased in the sale. The shipping costs for the semen will be the buyer’s responsibility. Buyers are welcome to bring their semen tanks to the sale and pick up semen then.

Because of extremely limited supply, semen on Beau Lad, Lexus and Utah will not be available for breeding privileges, and Jackaroo semen is not available for breeding privileges.

Pictured here are many of our herdsires. Complete pedigrees are available on our website www.loala.com or call us for more information.

Semen is available on many of these bulls for $25/straw. Special pricing applies to Captain Jack and Boxcar. Legend semen is not available for sale. If you need to purchase semen and want to save shipping expenses, call ahead so we are sure we have what you need here in our tank and you can pick it up sale day.
