More than any other of the evangelists, Luke is concerned about greed and materialism. In today’s Gospel we hear one of the parables of Jesus regarding greed. What does it profit us to hoard? The readings invite us to contemplate what we really need and what is too much. Each of us needs to discern this according to our consciences and cir-cumstances. What are the riches that will last? Not material possessions, but love and relationships and particularly for Christians, love and care for the poor and vulnerable. This is the treasure that will last!
