FROM THE DESK OF THE EDITOR

So, how quickly the year 2008 came and went! Trite but true. The year must have meant different things to different people. Perhaps some won a prize in Tattslotto and indulged in all that their hearts desired. Some, like me, experienced illness, pain, surgery, fear and anxiety but, with the help of the Almighty and the support of their spouses, won their battles and saw the dawn that heralded 2009. Yet others that we know of said a final Good bye to loved ones, spouses and old friends. Their state of mind is better imagined than described and our hearts go out to them with the hope that they will be able to pick up the threads of their lives and come to terms with the hand that has been dealt to them. Surely some of us would have thought of the many less fortunate members of our community that we help on a regular basis. Due to the low exchange rate that prevailed, we were able to pay them only a bonus of Rs.2000 each and the DBU hosted a party for them at which they really forgot their troubles and enjoyed themselves. Our thanks to the DBU and Mrs. Anthea Muller for going to all the trouble. I was very happy to receive a beautiful THANK YOU card from one of our Welfare Beneficiaries, Mrs. Lorna Van Rooyen. In it, she says:

“Just a note of thanks, from the heart, for the wonderful

time of fellowship and fun we had at the party.

Thank you too for your kindness and thoughtfulness

in giving us a Bonus!

We will never forget you and all who helped to make

this possible. God bless you all !

It is worth recording that, at the Christmas Party she refers to, Lorna was selected as the CENTENARY QUEEN 2008 and looked quite elegant as she marched up and down the ‘catwalk’ with the other contestants.
