Organization
Spotlight
Jersey Colts
In the 52 years since their inception, the colts are bigger and stronger than ever.
The Jersey Colts were originally founded as a town run hockey club named the Kinnelon Colts Ice Hockey Club in 1967 by Roger McDonough, Bob Ferretti, and Mr. Whritenour. In 2009 Tom Bishop brought the house league club to Twin oaks ice rink to be the anchor club for the newly appointed hockey director and ex NHL player Randy Velischek. Morris County is the real hotbed of NJ hockey and the club has evolved into a premier training tier-II organization.
Our players are trained with Conner McDavids “ power edge pro” equipment to teach the finer skills in hockey that are frequently only taught at the tier1 level. Power Edge Pro is an on-ice player development system utilizing propriety equipment and training patterns. The system focuses on Reactive Countering training, engaging multiple motor skills simultaneously to develop a player’s small area game performance. All patterns are completed while maintaining puck control and are designed to provide 5x as many repetitions as standard drill based practices, leading to faster development of elite skills.
Team tuition covers once a week dryland training at the adjacent Centercourt Academy where players are instructed by trainers to develop the skills of agility and age-appropriate weight training. Players are encour-aged to take what they are taught here and continue the program to strengthen their core and increase their knowledge of the importance of off-ice workouts.
In addition, teams have once a month professionally instructed power skating to teach the finer points of skating and increase player development. Teams practice twice a week and also have game film review twice a month.
The Colts have been full participating members of both the New Jersey Youth Hockey League as well as the Eastern Junior Elite Prospects League. In 2017, the Colts officially became the “Jersey Colts” and currently field teams from Mite through Midget 18U. We offer year-round training through various off-season clinics and lessons. Many Colts players have gone on to advance and play at even higher levels of juniors and prep schools and various levels of college hockey. We are proud that we play an integral part in their develop-ment to allow players to compete and chase their dreams.
President Tom Bishop brings over 40 years of hockey experience and has built a staff of knowledgeable and dependable hockey minds committed to the development of every player in the organization. Coaches on our staff include many that have played at the highest levels and continue to want to share their knowledge and skills with our players. The Colts organization will continue to strive to be a premier organization that parents, players, and friends enjoy the great game and life lessons of Hockey. GO COLTS!
