The Peirano family saw through much of the of the subsequent renovations starting in 1977, led by a local development firm called K.L. Associates and helped by the San Buenaventura Redevelopment Agency and Mainstreet Architects & Planners. Peirano’s reopened as a new and improved building and restaurant in 1998. In addition to its ancestral history, the Peirano building is also noteworthy for its placement above the southerly terminus of the intricate aqueduct and lavenderia water system that served the needs of the early Mission staff and nearby Native American village. Formerly known as Shisholop Village, it is located on the coastline, just east of the mouth of the Ventura River. The lavanderia served as a tank for cleaning clothes, from which recycled water traveled south toward the beach to irrigate fruit trees and crops planted along the shoreline. Mid-year commitments can be

prorated as necessary.

In their efforts to continually improve their service to the nation, the National Geo-

detic Survey (NGS) periodically undergoes a reevaluation and planning process. As

NGS approached the halfway point with their existing Ten-Year Plan (2008–2018),

NGS leadership decided it was time to reevaluate priorities. With changing techno-

logical developments and revised NGS priorities, it became clear that an updated

plan was needed. To represent their goals now and into the future, NGS is pleased

present their new Ten-Year Strategic Plan 2013–2023. To improve business operations, in the new plan NGS

has focused their efforts and resources on four main goals and one enterprise goal. We invite you to review

the updated plan at your convenience: http://geodesy.noa.gov/web/news/Ten_Year_Plan_2013-2023.pdf

To All Surveyors,

On behalf of the Land Surveying

Department here at the College of

the Canyons we’d like to extend a

well overdue and sincere THANK

YOU to each and every one of you

for attending the recent CLSA

Seminar put together by our local

Chapters, which featured the guest

speaker, Mr. Dennis Mouland.

While we hope that your attendance

was well received and of great bene-

fit to you, we’d like for you to con-

sider the local program that we offer

to the Surveying Community here at

the College of the Canyons. As was

mentioned at the seminar, we offer

both a Certificate program and an

Associate of Science Degree program

in the field of Land Surveying here at

the College. In order to find out more

information about our program,

please feel free to contact our

Department Chairperson, Mrs.

Regina Blasberg. She can be reached

at the College by telephone,

(661) 362-5096 or by e-mail, at

[email protected].

As was mentioned at the recent

seminar, our Survey Department is

offering a Boundary Principles Class,

Survey 105, during this upcoming

Winter Intersession. That class will

meet Tuesday, Wednesday and

Thursday evenings, from 6:00 PM to

9:20 PM, beginning January 5, and

going until February 7, 2014. This

class will offer practice and principle

concepts from the Brown’s Boundary

Control and Legal Principles book,

by Robillard, Wilson and Brown.

We hope that you will pass along the

information for this upcoming

offering to your fellow staff,

employees and fellow surveyors, so

as to offer an opportunity of

professional growth for these

surveyors and to help support the

College Land Surveying program.

This Survey program needs your

involvement to stay a viable source

of knowledge and education for our

Survey Community. Sign-ups for the

class are starting now at the College.

Thank you in advance for your

generous show of support. Sincerely, Ron Koester

Local Land Surveying Program

It is a violation of state law for an unlicensed individual to offer and/or practice civil, electrical, or mechanical engineer-

ing, land surveying, geology, and geophysics unless he/she is appropriately licensed by the Board. Our Board takes this

unlicensed offering and/or practice of professional services seriously. Since the Enforcement Unit is limited in its re-

sources and cannot proactively search for unlicensed activities, we rely on others to inform staff when unlicensed work is

being offered and/or performed. The Board is asking that any listing of these services by an individual not licensed to

perform those services be sent to our office for review. Licenses can be verified on our websites, www.pels.ca.gov and

www.geology.ca.gov, or by calling the Board Office. If you become aware of unlicensed and/or practiced activities, please

provide us with documentary evidence of the alleged unlicensed activity. This may include copies of the advertisement,

the written contract, a business card, or other documents that may support the allegation. You may choose to submit the

complaint anonymously, if you wish. The goal of the Board is to ensure understanding of and compliance with the laws

through education to prevent future violations and enforcement actions, when necessary. Any questions or concerns you

may have regarding possible unlicensed practice should be directed to Enforcement Analyst Larry Kereszt of The Board

For Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists by email at [email protected] or telephone at (916)

A Santa Barbara man has recently joined a

small group of professional land surveyors

nationwide to become a Certified Federal

Surveyor (CFedS). Eric J Ackerman, P.L.S.

who is the president and founder of Gromatici Land Survey-

ing, Inc., is among a select group of professional land

surveyors to participate in the Federal program called

CFedS, for Certified Federal Surveyor.

The CFedS program, which has been approved by

the U.S. Secretary of the Interior, was designed specifically to

enhance the level of knowledge and expertise in the

professional land surveying community for survey work

performed on federal lands and especially on Indian trust

lands. To earn the CFedS designation, professional land

surveyors must complete approximately 120 hours of course

materials prepared by the BLM's National Training Center,

in Phoenix, Arizona, and pass the certification examination.

To maintain the certification, a CFedS must complete 10

hours of continuing education annually.

This certification is a significant addition to the

resume and credentials of the private professional land

surveyor. Eric is currently licensed in the State of

California with over 24 years of experience.

See http://www.cfeds.org/ for more

information and official announcement.
