Orlando, FL - El 28 de marzo la Conexión de Negocios de la Cámara de Comercio Hispana de Metro Orlando, un evento auspiciado por New York Life (NYL), se llevó a cabo en el Citrus Club en el centro de Orlando Desde que el evento

comenzó, los asistentes fueron invitados a disfrutar de deliciosos aperitivos Latinos,

así como de bebidas, mientras desarrollaban relaciones con otros asistentes en una reunión única de colaboración. Orlando, FL - On March 28, 2012 the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando’s Business Connection event hosted by New York Life (NYL), was held at the Citrus Club in downtown Orlando. As the event began, guests were invited

to enjoy delightful Latin appetizers as well as drinks while building relations with other attendees in a unique collaborative gathering. Great prizes were also awarded, including a basketball signed by all the

Orlando Magic players. The event was undoubtedly a great success with more than 180 guests in attendance.

Kissimmee, FL– Coming soon to Kissimmee: the inaugural “Kissimmee Festival of Festivals,” a three-day festival filled with races, hot air balloon rides, music, arts/crafts, food and fun! The event has been generously planned and sponsored by a number of Osceola County-based businesses and organizations, including the Kissimmee Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Kissimmee/Osceola County Chamber of Commerce, Formosa Gardens Village and Orlando Balloon Rides.The event will kick off with an evening

5K and 10k race on Friday, September 21st. During the event, racers will have the opportunity to run alongside hot air balloons and to stay for the first night of the festival and experience first-hand the sights, sounds and festivities that this first annual event will bring to Osceola County.Bright and early on the morning of

Saturday, September 22nd, hundreds of international hot air balloons will take off for a cross-county ride, and viewers will be able to see various shapes, sizes, colors and sponsored

hot air balloons dot the Osceola County skyline. For several hundred visitors, balloon rides will be available if purchased in advance of the event. Simultaneously, two more road races will occur on the morning of the international balloon fest. Throughout the day, weather permitting, both tethered and hot air balloon rides will be offered to festival-goers. On the main festival grounds, event

attendees will delight in an array of activities, including concerts, festival fare and beverages, contests, games and arts & crafts vendors. Event organizers expect both attendees and vendors to come from all corners of the state. The festival will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday, September 21 and will conclude at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 23, 2012.“It was our goal from the beginning

Osceola county, FL - For two weeks this summer, the Osceola School District will supply talented, curious, and eager students, and The Juilliard School will supply capable teaching artists who have reached a level of excellence in their artistic pursuits. Together for the third year, they will participate in the Osceola County Arts Intensive, which will run between July 16-28, 2012. The program will culminate in a final showcase performance on Saturday, July 28, 2012. The Osceola County Arts Intensive

program will be open to students in Grades 7-12 (students must have completed sixth grade by Summer 2012). The program, which will be free or done at a very nominal charge for students, targets those who are talented and passionate about the arts, and who have been selected by audition/interview. Over the course of two weeks, students will receive a comprehensive introduction to professional-level singing/voice/instrumental, improvisation/theatre games/movement, poetry, dancing,

acting, visual art, costume, prop and stage design, and sound and lighting instruction. Throughout the Intensive, students will also have an opportunity to attend seminars to work on monologues and individual pieces, as well as discuss topics such as rehearsal etiquette, auditions, agents, and preparing for the workforce.Students must complete an

application in order to audition on May 5 and 6, 2012. Students will be allowed to audition/interview for Drama, Dance, Choral, Music, Musical Theatre, Instrumental (Band and Orchestra), Technical Theatre, and Visual Arts.Applications can be downloaded

Kissimmee, FL – GTECH Corporation, in partnership with the Florida Lottery, announced the opening of the newest GTECH after school advantage Computer Lab at the Center for Drug Free Living and hosted a special dedication ceremony to celebrate the lab’s official opening on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. The new computer lab was the 21st after school advantage learning lab that GTECH has installed in Florida. The lab features Dell flat-panel computers, new computer workstations, chairs, bookshelves, artwork, and educational and creative software. GTECH has also assisted in wiring the room for Internet use. The new

technology will provide the local children and teens with essential computer literacy skills and assistance during the critical after school hours.Representatives from GTECH and the Florida Lottery

joined other dignitaries as well as representatives from the Center for Drug Free Living for the lab’s official opening. Kissimmee, FL- Fifteen Employees of Valencia College volunteered for close to 60 hours to make a difference at the Education Foundation ~ Osceola County. Valencia employees volunteer at various local non-profits each year. Valencia representatives assisted two of the five Foundation programs including Kids Closet and A Gift For Teaching ~ Osceola County. At the Kids Closet, Valencia

volunteers folded and sorted boxes of clothing ranging from kids to adult sizes. While working, volunteers learned that more than 1,400 students are considered homeless or living in hotels located along HWY 192. Volunteers heard stories of students who could not afford school uniforms, shoes that fit correctly, or even something as small as a tooth brush. “The Kids Closet touched me so much, as I had no idea that so many kids needed help in Osceola County,” said Desiree Ruiz, a Valencia College Volunteer. “I look forward to volunteering and helping the Kids Closet in the future.”Other volunteers worked at A Gift

For Teaching of Osceola County (AGFT-O). AGFT-O offers teachers and students FREE school supplies, classroom materials, books, and

even incentives. Here volunteers unpacked boxes of product and stocked shelves with a variety of items from backpacks and crayons to Disney key chains and Tupperware containers. Each year, the program distributes over $1 million in product to underprivileged students. In fact, Valencia volunteers were shocked to hear that 72% of students in Osceola County cannot afford lunch, much less basic school supplies. “The experience greatly impacted me. I was pleasantly surprised at all the materials people donate to AGFT and how creative teachers are with the various supplies,” said Catherine Rivas, a Valencia College volunteer. “I was impressed with the leadership

and enthusiasm of the staff, and their commitment to our community,” said Celeste Henry, a Valencia College volunteer. Between the two programs, hundreds of students are helped each week. The Education Foundation is currently in need of boxes of crayons, loose leaf paper, new sneakers, childrens pants/shorts, and childrens navy blue polo shirts. Kissimmee, FL – The Osceola Center for the Arts extends an invitation to artists to participate in the 2012 Annual Juried Art Show with a top prize of $300 and five First Place prizes in the amount of $100 each. Bill Sheaffer for Circuit Court Judge

Orlando, FL - Well known criminal trial lawyer and WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer has announced his candidacy for Ninth Judicial Circuit Court Judge, Group 7, serving Orange and Osceola Counties. He is running for the seat vacated by Honorable Margaret Waller, who is retiring. “I am running for this seat simply because I owe

Central Florida. His legal career has spanned 34 years, during which he has handled cases throughout

series on the PSA test for prostate cancer.]Cancer of the prostate is one of the

most common types of cancer among American men. Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is

a protein produced by the cells of the prostate gland. The PSA test measures the level of this protein in the blood. It can be detected at a low level in the blood of all adult men. A fundamental problem with the PSA

test is that, while elevated levels can

indicate the presence of cancer, they can also be caused by other benign problems such as infection.PSA test results are horribly confusing

and often terrifying. In this column, we’ll address the primary question about PSA: Does it save lives? The answer is: We don’t know.

What’s worse is that we don’t know if PSA screening outweighs the risks of follow-up diagnostic tests and cancer treatments. For example, prostate surgery can

cause incontinence and erectile dysfunction. Even a prostate biopsy has risks because it can cause bleeding and infection. The PSA test can detect small

tumors. However, finding a small tumor does not necessarily reduce a man’s chance of dying from prostate cancer. PSA testing may identify very slow-growing tumors that are unlikely to threaten a man’s life. Also, PSA testing may not help a man with a fast-growing or aggressive cancer that has already spread to other parts of his body before being detected.So, what should a man do to protect

himself from prostate cancer? Some doctors encourage annual

screenings for men older than age 50; others recommend against routine screening. However, most doctors and medical organizations agree that men should learn all they can about prostate cancer, so they can reach informed decisions.The American Cancer Society and

the American Urological Society discourage screening for men whose life expectancy is 10 years or less.

Kissimmee, FL – Los oficiales de la Policía de Kissimmee detuvieron a una mujer por su participación en tres robos de autos.El 30 de marzo 2012, a las 11:15

Kissimmee, FL – Kissimmee police officers arrested a Kissimmee woman for her involvement in three car burglaries.On March 30, 2012 at approximately

11:15 p.m., officers received a call regarding a suspicious person opening unlocked car doors and removing items from several cars in the Terra Condos complex. The anonymous caller was able to give a detailed description of the suspect and the suspect’s direction of travel. Officers located and detained a subject matching the suspect’s description. During the course of the investigation, officers found that 21-year-old Lo’riesha Mo’nae Moutry of Kissimmee was in possession of several stolen items that were linked to three car burglaries within the Terra Condos complex. Lo’riesha Mo’nae Moutry was

arrested and charged with three counts of Burglary to a Conveyance and three counts of Petit Theft. Moutry was transported to the Osceola County Jail and was held on a $1500 bond. All items stolen by Moutry were returned to the owners.

Osceola county, FL – Osceola County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Lisa Raquel Rivera and charged her with Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer and Resisting without Violence. The investigation began on March 29 at approximately 11:15 p.m. when deputies responded to

The urologist did another DRE and ordered another PSA test. The test came in at 2.96. The urologist said that he thought 2.96 was my new PSA and that I should not worry about it.Two years later, my PSA was still

2.96. Then, the following year, it came in at 4.1. My family physician sent me to an urologist. Before I went to the urologist, I did

some research and learned that something as seemingly insignificant as a bowel movement could affect a PSA test. I told the urologist that I recalled going to the bathroom just before having blood drawn. He thought that this BM could have affected the test. Another DRE. Okay. Another blood

test. The PSA was 3.3. The urologist said no biopsy was required. The increase from 2.96 to 3.3 was not a cause for concern.I’m 70 now and my most recent PSA

came in at 2.4. What now?

have lost 4 games in a row for the second time this season. It started with the embarrassing loss against the injury-stricken Knicks last week, and continued this week with Orlando being the injury-stricken team.The Magic played host to the

defending champion Dallas Mavericks on Friday and lost a close game with Dirk Nowitzki hitting a one-legged bank shot to give Dallas the final lead. It was a tough loss, but one that Orlando could handle. Dallas is playing good basketball right now and the game was close. The real problem came during the game when Brendan Haywood hit Dwight Howard in the back with an elbow and caused some serious stiffness for the big man. He finished the game, but was later declared inactive for their next game against Denver. It was only the ninth game Dwight Howard has missed in his entire career.Glen Davis got the start against the

Nuggets with Howard inactive. He filled in pretty well for the big man,

scoring 18 points and grabbing 16 rebounds but the Magic would again fall short. Denver won the game 104-101 behind a scorching fifty-five percent shooting night. In the final minute of the game, on what proved to be the shot that put the Magic away, Ryan Anderson sprained his ankle trying to guard Ty Lawson. Tuesday night the Orlando Magic

were set to face the Detroit Pistons in the Palace of Auburn Hills, but it would be an empty shell of a team. Dwight Howard was still out with back stiffness, Ryan Anderson was out with his sprained ankle from Monday night, and Jameer Nelson was out with a calf injury. It was set to be a tough outing for Orlando, even against a struggling Pistons team. They fought hard behind a career high 31 points for Glen Davis, but again came up short, losing the game 102-95.Playoff positioning is a huge factor in

the league right now, and Orlando is not doing a good job of solidifying their spot in the third seed. They will have to battle hard once they get healthy to try and hold on to home court advantage in the first round.
