The Degree Programme in Electro-technical Engineering with specialization in ship automation gives you a broad technical education and excellent opportunities for an international career in an industry undergoing rapid development.
Electro-technical Engineering, 240 ECTS
About the Degree Programme
The programme will familiarize you with the vessel’s considerable array of automation systems. To prepare you for your future career, the programme alternates theory with practical work in the university’s electrical and automation labs, on board our training ships and on board ships in international traffic.
Why do you need this training?
As a result of the Manila amendments to the STCW Convention, Electro-Technical Officer A-III/6 will become a required certificate among many vessels’ safety manning certificates from 1 January 2017.
After Your Training
After completing your degree in electro-technical engineering, you will be qualified to work with electrical and control systems on ships both offshore and onshore. You will also have the training required to receive the international certificate for electro-technical officer (ETO) on board ships. As an ETO, you are responsible for the maintenance and repair of electronic and electrical equipment on board. An ETO is more of an electronics specialist than a conventional engineer, although you will also be required to understand the principles of power generation and distribution.
Remember that to be allowed to undertake an internship or work on board a ship, you are required to have a Seafarer’s Medical Certificate.
