•Collect and organize data using line plots, picture graphs, bar graphs, stem-and-leaf plots, line graphs•Interpret the data
Measurement
K-2 3-5
•Identify various instruments•Measure using non-standard units•Estimate and measure length, weight, and liquid volume
•Estimate and measure length, weight/mass, and liquid volume using Customary and Metric units•Estimate and measure area and perimeter•Identify equivalent measurements•Identify appropriate measurements and units
Geometry
K-2 3-5
•Sort and describe shapes•Compare and contrast shapes
•Compare and contrast 2-D & 3-D shapes•Describe lines, angles, rays, line segments, points•Congruence•Transformations
Algebra/Patterns
K-2 3-5
•Describe and extend repeating and growing patterns
•Describe and extend patterns using numbers, tables, and pictures•Create and extend numerical and geometric patterns•Describe and express the relationship in a number pattern
Problem Solving• Rigorous tasks (Exemplars)• Work Collaboratively• Work Efficiently• Evaluate and adjust thinking• Communicate (oral and written)• Multiple Strategies
Exemplar ExamplesPeter loves ice cream. He went to
the store to buy an ice cream snack. They had strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla ice cream. He could have a bowl or a cone. How many different ways could Peter have ordered his ice cream?
I love M&M cookies! I decided to bake a batch. I put a bag of M&M’s, 45 in all, into my batter and baked a dozen cookies. Each cookie had at least 3 M&M’s and not more than 5. What are the different possible combinations of M&M’s?
Building Confidence & Success• Master Basic Facts• Flexible Thinking & Connections• Celebrate a Mathematician• Adopt a more math-centric vocabulary• Weave math into everyday activities• Let them be the experts
