PICNIC COIN BUCKET The Silent Auction team is collect-ing loose change all year, so drop your change in the bucket in the ves-tibule. All that is collected will be put in a jug for bidding at the picnic.

MUSIC MINISTRY We are in need of more musicians with piano and/or organ talents to inspire our music at various Masses, especially at the Saturday 5:00 p.m. Masses and the 8:00 a.m. Masses during June, July, and August. What a great opportunity to praise and serve our Lord. Interested? Contact Lisa Hubbard @ 723-0759.

THANK YOU We extend a big thank you to Cathy Kidd, who recently volunteered to help with Church Cleaning. You are much appreciated, as is everyone who helps keep the Lord’s House well dusted and shiny. … Rachel Ouimet

OF INTEREST TO ALL …

THE HOLY GHOST T.V. MASS For the next Sunday, June 24 on Channel 18, the home bound or anyone who cannot come to Church for Sunday Mass, will be viewing our own Fr. Justin and parishioners. Please remind your family members who might not regularly watch the T.V. Masses that we’re on!

WELCOME! This past week we registered the Jonathan/Erin Jansky family, and they are: Jonathan, Erin (Henning), Evan, Brynn, & Declan Jansky. The Jansky family resides at 3933 112th St., Chippewa Falls. Jon is employed with Charter as an ISP Engineer; Erin is a busy homemaker. We are very pleased you chose us as your worshiping community.

ANNUAL APPEAL REMINDER … With the end of fiscal year, June 30, it is also the end of this year’s Annual Appeal. This is just a friendly reminder of your Appeal dues to be taken care of. Thank you.

CATHOLIC ORDER OF FORESTERS The District Picnic of the Catholic Order of Foresters will hold their annual picnic on Sunday, June 24 starting at Noon. It will be at the Boyd Park in Boyd, WI. Bring a dish to pass; brats, wieners, beverages, and ice cream will be provided. Call (715) 568-4178, (715)723-7194, or (715) 723-9089 for more information All members and their families are invited to attend. Agents and National & State Officers will be in attendance.

A CHURCH JOB JUST FOR YOU! We have need of someone to wash, iron and fold the small altar cloths each week. The person who has been doing this for a long time is moving. This would be a good ministry for someone who can’t do heavy or time-consuming jobs, but wants to help out your Church in some way. Also, if two wanted to share the job, that would be fine. And not to worry, you will be trained by the present lady. If interested, call me at (715) 723-0925. Thank you. - Karen Elstran

BOOK GROUP NEWS We are taking a break for the summer and will resume again next Fall, likely in mid-September. Two titles have been chosen, the first book we will discuss is: “The Devil You Don’t Know, Recognizing and Resisting Evil In Everyday Life” by Louis J. Cameli. The second book we will discuss is: “The Fisherman’s Tomb. The True Story of the Vatican’s Secret Search” by John O’Neill. Watch for more information in the Fall. If you have questions please contact Sharon at 715-894-1060 or email me at <[email protected]>

Holiness 15 Before we look at what the Holy Father has in mind when he characterizes the modern versions of the an-cient heresies of Gnosticism and Pelagianism, let’s consider what we do believe. Contrary to Gnosticism, we believe that we are not saved by knowledge. We are saved by grace, which Christ alone gives. We believe that this salvation is open to all and that God wants all to come to Him through Jesus Christ by living faith in Him. Liv-ing faith, lest we treat faith as just a matter of knowing, is a loving knowledge. It is faith + charity. We are saved by this living faith, by faith + charity. This living faith is primari-ly a gift a from God, and it is a gift that is open or offered to all. It is not the case that Christ’s grace is possible only for some. We believe that the world is created by God and so is good. All of reality, in-cluding material reality, is good. We draw certain conclusions from the world’s good-ness. Since everything that is, is good, it says something about the goodness of God who created it. It says something about the authenticity of God’s dealings with us. God the Son really did take on a complete human nature – soul and body, equipped with intellect, will, and emotions. He who created it also took it upon Himself. We have certain convictions of how good material reality is, and how the Incarnation – God’s becoming man – has sanctified created reality even more. The goodness of created elements is emphasized in their use in the sacraments. Water, Oil, Bread, Wine all are good, but get used to convey something even better. The God who cre-ated materials things as good, who takes on a human nature and highlights its goodness still more, uses material things to communicate His divine life to us. Contrary to Pelagianism, we understand that God saves. We don’t save our-selves. We need grace, divine life, in us. That divine life is communicated through the sacraments. The sacraments draw on Christ’s saving actions on the cross which are rep-resented in all the sacraments, but most especially, and most completely, in the Mass. Jesus is more than a good example, or nice guy, or inspiring figure, or good teacher. He is God. He has saved us from sin by the sacrifice of Himself on the cross, which is repre-sented at every Mass. I am not saved by my good actions, by my act of will, by my personal choice for Jesus, by my own act of faith in Jesus, or decision for Him, or anything that we could say that would characterize something that we do. I am saved by God. God saves. His gifts save. His divine life saves. He gifts that life to us on the cross. It is by his gift that we have faith, living faith, faith that saves. It is by His gift that we have His life. Having His Life in us is the only way we live with Him. Once we have hammered home the point that God saves, then we can move one to point out that God’s grace will be manifest by our cooperation. I am not saved against my will. If I am saved, it will be because by God’s grace, I cooperated with Him, I was open to His Life and its working in me. If there is living faith, there will be works that corroborate that living faith, that divine life, that grace in me. This is what we believe about the topics raised by the ancient heresies of Gnos-ticism and Pelagianism.

OUR NEW BOOKSHELF & PARISH RESOURCE CENTER Pastoral Council has brought to my attention that some of you might be con-cerned about the placement of our new bookshelf. The source of the concern might be thoughts of potential risk in the case of some emergency such as fire. We had the fire dept. come and look at what we were planning on doing, and they gave us the green light. They affirmed our plans to put wheels on the book-shelf-it can be easily pushed out of the way in the case of emergency-and they suggested we move it out of the way on days when large attendance is expected, days such as Christmas and Easter. Rest assured that there is no risk in the case of emergency. Make sure to look at the shelf either on your way in or out of Mass. Thanks to all who have helped reestablish order and beauty to our vesti-bule despite the tight quarters and relatively little usable space. Thanks espe-cially to the bequest in honor of Betty Henning that made it possible. Thanks to all for your openness to and patience with the process.
