fter watching the deeply moving ceremony for the Springbok legend of the 1995 World Cup winning team, Joost van der Westhuizen, I realized that there are so many different challenges which people have to face. Yes, we all have
challenges, even extremely fit and athletic people like Joost, but what is important is how one reacts to these challenges. Each child in our school has a challenge he/she needs to face, may it be academic, sport, cultural or even socially or emotional challenges. As parents and educators, we need to be the best possible examples and teachers of how one must react to adversity and challenges. At Hermitage House, we strive to teach our learners one of the most important life skills; to face challenges head on and turn a seemingly bad situation into a positive one. “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” Martin Luther King Jr.
am pleased to see the dedicated approach towards the past
few tests from our Grade 4-7’s. If this effort and attitude continues in the same manner it will definitely pay dividends in their future studies. There have been some good results in the English and Maths tests. Well done!

n Friday, 10 February, we had a summer fun day instead of our termly outing. We had a slippery slide,
which everyone enjoyed, as well as a jumping castle. We made our own ice-cream and used different sweets to decorate our ice-creams. It was a day filled with fun and everything we need to enjoy summer with.
Thank you to
Tannie Tilla
for all our
lovely Teddy
Bears. The
children love
playing with
them all.

For our theme:
we had a
very special guest – Aunty
Charlene whom is
Delandre’s granny. She
showed us how to crochet
and it was very interesting.
The children thoroughly
enjoyed the lesson.
was a
very special theme to all the children. I can
see the love in each home. Big and small we learned it all. “My house” we learned that mine can be bigger than yours. It is our safe place where our family lives together. Each day we learn something new and special. We enjoy every day.
or the past two weeks we concentrated on
and “My house” as our themes. The
three little pigs were one of our favourite stories! We
painted some colourful houses and we learned what shape
a house is, by building some houses with colourful sticks.
A BIG thank you to
Addo Earthmovers
for fixing our road at
the Pre-School!

The players all seemed to enjoy themselves on the field, and showed that the girls of Hermitage House know a thing or two about cricket. They were also well supported by several parents watching from the side. Thank you to those parents who were able to help with lifts.
Tennis
nnis
On the 30th of January, we travelled to Port Elizabeth to play against Theodor Herzl in a fun, but competitive tennis match. Each player played 5 matches with each match consisting of the best out of 5 games. Our team did very well and gave their best. Although our players won many matches we narrowly lost to Theodor Herzl. It was a good warm-up to a promising year. The players that took part were: Rolene Beyl, Amani Tupanjanin Clase, Eloise Whittle, Isa Stiemie, Nina Mouton, Shani Barnard, Marshlin Hendricks and Hlomela Peter.
Well done to you all!

huge thank you to the parents who kindly donated either material
or money towards the Polo Club renovations.
This certainly helps the school make these types of things possible.
Thanks to Rob Hayter who ran with the building and renovations.
It is a pleasure leaving the building in his capable hands.
A huge thank you to Colin Pearson who built and installed the
protective cages for the new gas geysers. These cages are very well made.
Rodney Bolton has been the driving force behind this process.
There are many aspects in which to thank him.
To name a few: Organising for the road to be graded, finding and organising
builders, sourcing material, getting people to help
contribute to the renovations and even fixing leaks. Rodney also organised
and purchased signs for the Polo Club. He cut away bush/trees
himself and saw to the Polo Club grounds being tidied up.
Thank you Rodney for providing transport in order for the bus to be
serviced in Port Elizabeth.
Gary Webb – for organizing the TLB
Jacques Jooste - for using his tractor to pick up the cut grass at
the Polo Club and carting much grass/bush felling away.
Quintin Whittle – for transporting rubble and tank
Charlie Hume (Addo Earthmovers) – for carting away
all the rubble and fixing the dirt road
at the Polo Club
.
