Dear Families,

We hope your families are hitting a smooth back-in-school groove! Establishing a

good homework routine that includes reading nightly and talking about what

students are learning will help your student make great gains. Spalding teachers

have been working to assess students to find out current skills and plan for how to move each student ahead with the curriculum standards. Kindergarten through 3rd

grade students are taking the state Idaho Reading Indicator this week. We use this

data to help students set goals, and we look forward to sharing goals during our

student-led conferences in October.

Each fall the Spalding team updates our safety plan. The plan includes fire drills, at

least two lockdown drills, and various other drills we train to help staff know how

to handle various crisis situations, and help teach students how to stay safe. Please

talk with your student about taking lockdown and fire drills seriously, and listening

for the guidance of Spalding staff to ensure everyone’s safety. In the event of an

emergency, families will be notified via our district mass notification system. Please

be sure your contact information is updated in PowerSchool and make sure you

have a phone number in the cell phone box so you can get notifications as needed.

Remember to review important information from the student handbook with your

student. Please pay particular attention to the policies and procedures for

attendance and tardies, dress code, toys and valuables, and student conduct. The

elementary student handbook can be found on the West Ada School District web-

site under the parents/students tab.

Jamie Dobson, Principal

The Spalding Community THANKS YOU! • John and Lori Newton spent hours this August repairing our garden gates so students can use

them safely. • Our neighborhood friend BG walks by our school daily and helps pick up litter and return stu-

dents’ items that are left outside.

Want to help? We love volunteers, especially for our garden club on Tuesday afternoons from

4:00-4:30 and for classroom projects. Join our PTO or check with Spalding staff about volunteer

opportunities!

Student drop-off and pick-up area:

1) If you are going to get out of your vehicle, use a parking stall. Do not go through the drop-

off/pick-up area. Use the crosswalk and follow the directions of staff in vests. 2) If you are not getting out of your vehicle, have your students enter and exit the vehicle on the

passenger side. This ensures they are not stepping out into on-coming traffic. 3) Follow the counter-clockwise flow of traffic in the parking lot. Pull up to the end of the fence

(4th yellow arrow) so cars aren’t blocking Braddock Dr.

4) Follow the directions of the crossing guards on Braddock and on Cloverdale.

Let’s slow down and make sure all of our students, staff and family are safe in the parking lots.
