WORLDWIDE COMMUNION SUNDAY

There is only one voice which rises above the face of the earth; the voice of Christ. That voice invites and coordinates in itself all the voices raised in prayer… People throughout the world may look different, or have a different religion, education or position, but they are all the same. They are hungry for love. The people you see in the streets of India or Hong Kong are hungry in body, but the people in London or New York also have a hunger that must be satisfied. Every person needs to be loved. God made us for greater things: to love and to be loved, and we cannot love without prayer. —Mother Teresa PRELUDE Here In This Place” arr. Gilliland GATHERING MUSIC (back of worship folder) “N’Nung Yeh Dah! “Asithi: Amen” “Cornerstone” GREETINGS and ANNOUNCEMENTS AFFIRMATION OF FAITH From the Masai of Kenya

One: We believe in the one High God, who out of love created the beautiful world and everything good in it. God created people and wanted them to be happy in the world. God loves the world and every nation and tribe on the earth. We have known this High God in the darkness and we now know God in the light. God promised in the book called the Bible, the word of God that all nations and tribes of the world would be saved. We believe God made good this promise by sending Jesus Christ, the Son of God, a Jew by tribe, born poor in a little village, who left his home and was always on safari doing good, curing people by the power of God, teaching about God and people, showing that the meaning of religion is love. He was rejected by his people, tortured and nailed — hands and feet — to a cross and died. He lay buried, but the hyenas did not find his body, and on the third day he rose from the grave. He ascended to the skies. He is the Lord!

OUR CIRCLE OF UNITY IN CHRIST * HYMN “Bind Us Together” Bind us together, Lord bind us together, with chords that cannot be broken. Bind us together, Lord, bind us together, Lord, bind us together in love. There is only one God. There is only one king. There is only one body, that is why we sing. Bind us together, Lord, bind us together with chords that cannot be broken. Bind us together, Lord, bind us together, Lord, bind us together with love. * BENEDICTION * POSTLUDE

* Please stand, as able Following worship you are invited to join us for Fellowship Time. Tables are set up in the foyer, downstairs in the fellowship hall, and, weather permitting, outside the west entrance to the church. An assortment of light foods will be served. All: We believe that all our sins are forgiven through him. All who have faith in him must be sorry for their sins, be baptized in the Holy Spirit of God, live the rules of love, and share the bread together in love, to announce the good news to others until Jesus comes again. We are waiting for him. He is alive! He lives! This we believe. Amen! * INVOCATION PRAYER * HYMN “Flow, Spirit, Flow” PRAYER OF CONFESSION Let us seek the forgiveness of God and of each other for the divisions that have divided Christian witness; Lord, we have sinned against you and against each other. Lord, have mercy. O Christ, our divisions are contrary to your will, and have impeded our common witness to you. Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy. Lord, we have not loved you enough in our sisters and brothers, created in your image, but different from us. Lord Jesus Christ, son of the living God, have mercy. (continued on next page)

(continued from previous page) Creator God, stop us wandering in alienation from one another. Satisfy the longings of our hearts, grant our rightful requests, and unite us soon in one holy church through your Son Jesus Christ, who with you in the communion of the Holy Spirit lives and reigns eternally. Lord Jesus Christ, son of the Living God, have mercy upon us, sinners. (Prayer from an ecumenical group of Catholic, Lutheran, Orthodox, and Pentecost Christians in the former Yugoslavia.) SILENT CONFESSION WORDS OF PARDON PRAYER OF INTERCESSION CHOIR “Come Share God’s Gift” Price/Bessig GOSPEL LESSON John 17: 6, 20-26 “I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word. Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me. I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them. I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by me—so that they may be one as we are one…” “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.”

WORDS OF INSTITUTION THE AFFIRMATION “The bread which we break is the communion of the body of Christ.”

“The cup which we drink is the communion of the blood of Christ.” THE SACRAMENT OF COMMUNION CHOIR “Song for the Body of Christ” Haas

(congregation will sing the chorus)

We have come to share our story. We have come to break the bread.

We have come to claim our rising from the dead.

UNISON PRAYER Lord God, we take upon ourselves with joy the yoke of obedience, and engage our selves, out of love for You, to seek and to do Your perfect will. We are no longer our own, but Yours. I am no longer my own, but Yours. Put me to what You will. Rank me with whom You will. Put me to doing, or put me to suffering. Let me be employed for You, or laid aside for You.. Let me be full, let me be empty. Let me have all things, let me have nothing. I freely and wholeheartedly yield all things to your pleasure and disposal. And now, O glorious and blessed God, Father, Son, and Holy spirit, you are mine, and I am Yours! So be it! —John Wesley HYMN “Thuma Mina”

RESPONSE “United in Your Name”

GOSPEL LESSON Matthew 15: 32-39 Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, or they may collapse on the way.” His disciples answered, “Where could we get enough bread in this remote place to feed such a crowd?” “How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked. “Seven,” they replied, “and a few small fish.” He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, and when he had given thanks, he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and they in turn to the people. They all ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. The number of those who ate was four thousand, besides women and children. After Jesus had sent the crowd away, he got into the boat and went to the vicinity of Magadan.
