The Annual Low Country Boil was held Saturday, November 10, 2018, at museum. This is one
of our major fundraisers and has been a favorite of members and friends of the museum year after year.
Once again the comments about the food were that it was the best ever, and even the grits were exceptional!
Thank you to everyone who pitched in to help with this event and make it a great success.
Cake Raffle
Two beautiful and delicious cakes were raffled off
during the Low Country Boil: a caramel cake and
a lemon cake. The fortunate winners were Donnie
Smith and Barbara Butler.
On December 11, the ladies book club of Summerville
came to tour the museum and have lunch in Santee. Sally Jo
Coulliette, dressed in period attire, was the docent who led
their tour. They were very complimentary about the muse-
um and let us know they plan to bring some of their family
back.
Later in December, one of the ladies brought her family
and they toured this time with the audio wands.
Do you have a group or family members who would en-
joy touring the museum? Just call and make arrangements.
Mr. Snider would like to thank you all for your support of the museum and
wish you a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year 2019!
History Lecture: Maastricht, The Netherlands, Christmas Eve, 1944
The December program at the museum attracted a large group of military history enthusiasts to
hear a lecture by Major General William H. Brandenburg, US Army retired. General Brandenburg
used a familiar military briefing format complete with large scale maps and photos of the WWII Europe-
an theatre to describe the Battle of Maastrict, De Schark caves and The Battle of Schmidt. A period for
questions at the conclusion of the lecture included discussion of additional WWII history as well as the
general’s personal experience in the Balkans and the Iraq War.
Major General Brandenburg last served as Deputy Commanding General, U.S. Army, Pacific. He
deployed to the Balkans as Deputy Chief of Staff (Operations), Allied Rapid Reaction Corps in 1995,
and to the Iraq war in 2004. He holds a Master’s Degree in Management and is a graduate of the of the
Infantry Officer Basic Course, Armor Officer Advanced Course, Ordnance Officer Advanced Course,
Command and General Staff College, and the Air War College.
Bill is a native of Elloree and a 1973 graduate of the Citadel. He is married to Sybil Livingston
Brandenburg and has one son. They reside in Elloree where Bill serves on the Elloree Town Council
and Sybil serves on the museum board.
