Data point of the month:

major behaviors. 91.6% of our student
had no ODRs in the month of May!

absent to date for the 2018-19 school
year. This has dropped from nearly 13%
last year!
Highlights of the past Month:
At our Panther Pride Assembly on May
16th we had an amazing performance by
our kindergarten students about the
movement they have built into their
learning. We recognized 27 students for
their outstanding behavior over the last
month, and they joined Mrs. Comeau
and Mr Benoit for a pizza lunch on May
30th! Ms LaPrell was awarded the Mugs
and Kisses Award by her peers for being
so helpful to them and so dedicated to
the PCS students.
The district Art Show was a huge
success! Thank you to parents and
community members who came to the
show during the day and in the evening.
Our students all appreciate your
support!
Staff Professional Development:
-Staff worked on forming balanced
classroom communities for next year’s
classes. We spend about a month
working on theses list with classroom
teachers and input from families. We
are having step-up day for our students
on June 6 when they get to meet their
learning community for next year!
District professional development
included an introduction to the reading
program we will be using next year, as
well as some team building as we
prepared for the district art show.
We will be looking at our behavior data
from this year to help us plan for next
year. We hope to use that information
Data point of the month:
-Average of 3.85 office discipline
referrals per day for the year
(September to May).
-Average daily attendance for the month
of May was 93.81%.
-Percentage of students currently
chronically absent (missing more than
10% of the school year) at ESS is 7.56%.
Highlights of the past Month:
-The sixth grade “Little Libraries”
project was completed during the
month of May. The sixth grade students
completed four little libraries and they
have been placed within the Mechanic
Falls Community to promote literacy
within our town. The students and their
libraries were featured in an article by
the Sun Journal. They also presented
their “Little Libraries” project to the
friends of RSU 16 last week.
-During the month of May, our students
participated in the “Dunk the Junk”
Assembly organized by our school nurse,
Melanie Whited. Melanie invited. Dr.
Kevin Strong, a pediatrician in Maine,
who travels to area schools to
encourage students to avoid sugary
drinks, such as soda and chocolate milk,
and to replace it with healthy
alternatives. He shared that by the time
an average child in developed countries
turns 8 years old, they will have had
more sugar in their lives than the
average person did in their entire
lifetime just one century ago. Students
were encouraged to take the “Dunk the
Junk” challenge!
