EC has had rela-tive success in home-opening games over the last 14 years, posting a 6-8 record. The Purple and Gold won their 2013-14 home opener, defeating Hilbert College, 74-64.

Long Time No See: This is the first time in over 14 years that an Elmira team will have held their first home game after the New Year, having played their first eight games of the season away from home. This is the greatest number of games played before the Soaring Eagles’ first home game in EC history, eclipsing the six-game wait in 1979-80, 1982-83, 1983-84, and 1986-87.

A Split in North Country: EC took a trip to North Country before the holiday break and came away with a 1-1 record. Elmira used 24 points from both Neil Randolph ’15 and Jus-tin Henderson ’16 to defeat previously-unbeaten Clarkson University, 76-68 in overtime, before falling to St. Lawrence University the following day.

The Marksman: Justin Henderson ’16 put on one of the best shooting displays any Elmira College men’s basketball player has ever had against Clarkson on Friday, December 5th. Henderson made 8-of-10 from three-point range, includ-ing a perfect 7-of-7 from behind the arc in regulation. The eight made three-pointers matches the most successful three-point attempts in a single game by an individual player in the last 14 years. That occurred last season when Josh Keys ’14 went 8-of-14 from three-point range against Morrisville State.

Looking Ahead: EC resumes their Empire 8 Conference schedule with a road contest at Alfred University on Tuesday, January 6th at 8:00 p.m.

Game Notes (as of Dec. 18th)Last Time Out: The Cardinals of St. John Fisher Col-lege entered their holiday break winners of their last three games, pushing their overall record to 5-2 in 2014-15. After falling to SUNY Geneseo in the semifinals of the Wendy’s College Classic, the Cardinals rebounded to defeat the Uni-versity of Rochester, 61-56, to start the run. St. John Fisher then defeated Buffalo State and Bethany College for their first two road wins of the season.

Amongst the Conference Leaders: Keegan Ryan’17 is lead-ing the Cardinals in scoring through the season’s first seven games, averaging 18.4 points per game. He also leads the team in rebounding at 8.4 rebounds per game. Ryan ranks third in the Empire 8 Conference in scoring and fifth in the conference in rebounding, just one of two players in the Empire 8 to rank in the top-5 in both categories. The Other Cardinals: Behind Ryan, St. John Fisher is get-ting double-digit scoring efforts from both Optimystik Ki-nard ’15 and Tyler Hart ’16, who are averaging career-highs of 13.1 and 10.5 points per game, respectively. Chaz Lott ’16 is well off his 2013-14 pace of 14.3 points per game, scoring 7.8 through the season’s first seven games, but Lott is aver-aging a career-high 6.3 assists per game, which ranks him in the top-10 nationally in assists per game.

Series History: EC and St. John Fisher have been familiar foes throughout each program’s history, meeting a total of 64 times prior to today’s contest. The Cardinals hold a signifi-cant advantage in the series, winning 50 of the 64 contests.
