Our first semester has wrapped up and exams are now over after a few weather‐related delays. Our students have been busy studying and work‐ ing hard to finish their courses and are ready to begin the second semes‐ ter. Report cards will be mailed home the week of February 11th. Please con‐ tact your child’s teacher if you have any questions related to his/her final marks. We are very excited about the second half of this school year and what will be happening around CSNC. With a new term brings a renewed focus on student achievement, and the social and emotional development of our stu‐ dents. Our Grade 8 Open House is on February 13th at 7:00 in the CSNC Music Thea‐ tre. This is an opportunity for current grade 8 students and their families to hear about the many programs and opportunities available to them at CSNC, to meet staff and current students, and to take a tour of the school. The transi‐ tion from grade 8 to high school can be a stressful experience for students and their families, and this important event helps to reduce any uncertainty or anxiety. Our grade 9‐11 information evening with be held at 7:00 on February 25th. Students and their families will have the opportunity to receive im‐ portant information on Manitoba High School graduation requirements, post‐ secondary options and scholarships, and the many different program choices CSNC offers that they will need to consider when registering for the next school year. The next five months will go by quickly and our students will continue to grow and develop their skills in all areas of our school life. Working together, we are committed to provide a learning environment that is truly safe, genuinely car‐ ing and dedicated to student achievement. Stay warm and keep active! Apps for Anxiety D id you know there are apps out there designed to help you with

your anxiety and mental health? Article reprinted from ADAM (Anxiety Disorders Association of

Manitoba) http://www.adam.mb.ca Anxiety BC is still one of the most comprehensive websites we have found for information on anxiety for adults, teens, and children. Sections include one for parents, one for new moms or expectant mothers, and one for youth and teens. They now have a mobile app, Mindshift that you can take with you anywhere! Mindshift includes information about anxiety, a place to track goals, re-laxation techniques and more! Another app out of British Columbia called Booster Buddy has just been released by the Vancouver Island Health Authority. It is designed to help kids and youth cope with a range of mental health problems including de-pression and anxiety. The design incorporates a 'gaming' feel which ap-peals to teens and young adults. Both apps are available free on the App Store and Google Play.

E nd of January into February was Grade 8 Gumball time again; we in-vited a total of 142 potential CSNC students to the Woodshop during the exam week to get a taste of the high school woodshop experi-

ence. Mother Nature was not our friend and unfortunately we were not able to accommodate all of the students due to closures but Gumball Machines will be making their way to the individuals who missed out. Looking forward to seeing all the students on February 13th for our Annual Open House!

JV Girls Basketball O ur Junior Varsity Girls Basketball team is off to a tremendous start to the season. Pres-

ently they have a perfect record of 14 wins and 0 losses. They have also been crowned champions of three tournaments (Elmwood, Lorette, and their own home tournament).

They have beaten rivals Westgate, Windsor Park, St. Johns Ravenscourt and Louis Riel in league play. They also have victories over Dakota, Murdock Mackay and several other AAAA schools (with student population much larger than ours) in Manitoba. For their stellar play they have been ranked as the #1 team in AAA basketball! The Celtics have a very talented group of grade 9’s featuring Forward Fatima Ebrahim, who leads the way in scoring with 314 points. She is averaging 29 pts a game including a season high 53 point effort last week vs Elmwood. For her efforts, she was selected as the Most Valua-ble Player at our home tournament last week-end. Guard/Forward Mercy Lasu was the Most Valuable Player at the Lorette Tournament, and is averaging 22 pts per game, and Guard Han-nah Olugbodi was the Most Valuable Player at the Elmwood Tournament and leads the way with excellent defense and court vision. Come cheer them on as they hope to continue their success in pursuit of a Zone Championship and a berth to the Provincials, which this year will be in Brandon (Neelin High School).
