What is Shallow Breathing? Shallow breathing or chest breathing is when we inhale taking minimal breaths into
our lungs. We use the intercostal (rib) muscles instead of using the diaphragm muscles to breathe. Most of the time we are not aware we are breathing so shallow.
The level of carbon dioxide controls our breathing. Most of us over breathe (breathe too many breaths per minute), which means we experience a low-grade form of hyperventilation, this changes the oxygen and carbon dioxide balance.
Shallow breathing affects our whole body. It can keep us in a cyclical state of stress- our stress can cause shallow breathing and our shallow breathing can cause stress.
Shallow breathing can affect our immune system making us susceptible to illnesses. Shallow breathing can also turn into panic attacks; and can create tension in other areas of our body like our shoulders, neck, and chest. It can affect our posture as we tend to slump forward when we breathe shallow.
In Psalm 150:6, it says, “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!”

PrimeTime Seniors meets on Thursday, September 27 at 2:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall.
Pastor Gary will show some pictures and tell about the recent experience he and Diane had at Holden Village while on sabbatical. Everyone welcome! There will be refreshments.
CONSTRUCTION NOTES • Temporary Main Entrance is now located on the South side of the building
(Fellowship Hall doors).
• Ramp: Though we will not have an elevator until our project is completed, a ramp is available on the west side of the building. If you or someone you know could use assistance, please call ahead (376-5264). Thank you for your patience.
• Please Help: As access to our facility becomes more challenging for some of our fellow worshippers during our construction project, members of American Lutheran are asked to help welcome and assist however possible. If you can volunteer to be available before and/or after either worship service near one of the entrances, or near the ramp, please call the church office at 507-376-5264. Thank you.
• Important Dates…
• January 7, 2019: Begin sanctuary renovations
• April 12, 2019: Estimated completion date.
Watch here for more weekly updates!
Applications for the Worthington Workcamp
Our work to make the Worthington Workcamp next July 7-13 the best ever rolls on! Resident applications are being distributed throughout the community with the help of our CORE volunteer team and are available at many places including Love INC, the food pantries along with many local churches, as well as our Facebook page – Worthington MN Work Camp 2019. We are truly blessed as almost 400 youth and their adult chaperones have already signed to come to our community to do the needed work and take part in this life changing event! If you are in need or know of someone in need of home repair/improvement, please fill out an application to have your project considered to be one of the 60 projects to be selected for completion. Applications can be found on the table at the top of the Fellowship Hall steps.

"Wide Open Workcamp"
Nestled in the heart of what was once the Tallgrass Prairie, Worthington is surrounded by wide open fields and farms. Being in the breadbasket of the Nation, Worthington is home to several agricultural processing and manufacturing industries. Products from our humble community are sent across the globe.
Worthington has a very diverse population with large Asian, African, and Latino heritage communities. Even in a prosperous area, unfortunately some get left behind. Your work here will reach across ethnic, economic, and religious barriers to life up those in need.
Secure your spot by October 1st by completing a health form and a check for $75 made out “ALC Youth Council”. All current 8th to 12th grade youth and their friends are invited to
