Year 7 Camp!!!
Year 7 enjoyed the activities at the camp; they did rock climbing, shelter building
and completed an obstacle course, then they made a camp fire. Some did not like
the food as it was not to their taste.
They had two groups both had an
instructor to tell them what to do. One
group had to find balls on trees , they
had a map to find the balls. This is
called orienteering. They shot an air
gun at a target. They played cat and
mouse the cat had to get the mouse .
They made a camp fire and cooked
some marshmallows whilst singing
campfire songs. After they had
finished they went to the tents to get
some rest for the last day!
The next day they swapped over and
did the other groups activities which
were rock climbing and they did a
rope course then they both went back
to camp. the tribes had a competition
one team won .

Warwick castle
Warwick Castle is a medieval castle
developed from an original built by
William the Conqueror in 1068.
Warwick is the county town of
Warwickshire, situated on a bend of
the River Avon. The original wooden
motte-and-bailey castle was rebuilt in
stone in the 12th century. During the
Hundred Years War, the facade
opposite the town was refortified,
resulting in one of the most
recognisable examples of 14th
century military architecture. It was
used as a stronghold until the early
17th century, when it was granted to
Sir Fulke Greville by James I in 1604.
Greville converted it to a country
house and it was owned by the
Greville family, who became Earls of
Warwick in 1759, until 1978 when it
was bought by the Tussauds Group.
The year 7’s have been to Warwick Castle on the 3rd day of
extended learning week on the 13th of July
They had a walk around
the walls and then
watched a demonstration
of the Trebuchet; the larg-
est and most formidable
of the siege machines.
This could breach the
walls of the castle.

The Natural History Museum in London is a museum of natural history that exhibits a vast
range of specimens from various segments of natural history. The museum is particularly
famous for its exhibition of dinosaur skeletons and ornate architecture, sometimes dubbed a
cathedral of nature, both exemplified by the large Diplodocus cast which dominates the
vaulted central hall.

the language spoken there.
Ypres, on August the 4th, 1914 the invasion
started with Germany invading Ypres, Belgium.
British troop’s stormed in from over the hill after
exploding 5 mine fields. On April the 22 the first
gas was used for the time. At that time the 5th
division suffered badly and 5471 people died or
got painfully injured.
The nickname is “wipers”
FLAG of YPRES
coats of Arms
Historian Mark Connelly states that in the 1920s,
British veterans set up the Ypres League and
made the city the symbol of all that they believed
Britain was fighting for and gave it a holy aura in
their minds. The Ypres League sought to
transform the horrors of trench warfare into a
spiritual quest in which British and imperial troops
were purified by their sacrifice.

THE SWEEP
The sweep also known as the Schlieffen plan was to invade Belgium,
and then sweep round to invade France and take control of Paris
which would mean Germany could take its full attention on Russia.
They decided to invade Belgium first as the military forces aren't
good there and that’s the same for Luxembourg and the Netherlands
at that time.

and the consequences of doing
something bad. We then

we want no uniform and a
bigger range of activities “ after
they gave their answer we asked
them another question. What
have you learned today? Their
reply was “we have learned what
types of crimes there are.”
Another subject they are learning is all about Charles Dickens who was born on the 7th of February 1812 in Portsmouth . His career was all about being a writer but he died on the 9th of June 1870. We went over to see what the year 9’s were doing in the English block and found them watching Oliver twist so we quickly
left after taking one quick picture
